Naa it was Something central to the function of the direction reddit is going and Victoria had a falling out over it. The details have been kept private but it's easy to figure out if you followed the dialogs and grumblings.

Yes I remember it. As to privacy well I have bigger issues with the privacy on Facebook. Yah the has always been a core group of computer people who maintain absolute annomimaty as such they will never be satisfied but for most people that level of paranoia doesn't exist.
I remember YTMND. I also remember Geocities. And dialing into BBS's, and dialing in to download emails and newsgroup headers in Agent, and then logging off and back on to get the messages.
And so what if reddit does go away? It's the internet -another ten sites will spring up that do the same thing.
Actually because of the number of important people who have done AMAs I would think reddit would get bought out by a major player and updated in such a way to have better longevity. There is real value in having large numbers of people using a site. Just look at Twitter.
people get fired all the time
reasons don't need to be given
fing get over it
I'm surprised reddit needs a separate sub for circlejerk. Isn't that all of reddit?
I for one wouldn't be sad to see that hivemind garbage pile go away. reddit's voting system makes people dumber.
While you live, shine / Have no grief at all / Life exists only for a short while / And time demands its toll.
AMA - Ask Me Anything*
*But only from this list of questions I've submited before and have prepared already made out answers.
I think you fail to understand how AMA works. If not what I described above is how mainstream media deals with politicians. They don't give interviews unless they know the questions to not be surpised. I'm sure you wouldn't want that to be on Reddit as well!
I still don't really know WTF reddit is
Collections of forums (called subreddits) for everyone and about everything: books, games, porn, violence, shocking content, etc... It once was "the internet" but due to the popularity they began closing down old communities with "risky" content just so they wouldn't get bad press, because most of the time none could or would even sue them.
Add a fact of a need to make revenue and you have almost a "facebook" like change where they will promoted content and curate threads, subreddits (boards) to "make it safer". Also management side that got more and more into running thigs.
The same old issue gaming industry now has had for a few decades, where people with no background or interest are just in to make a buck!
