hum... Katzbalger is 16th century. So guess I'll go with an Irish hand and a half?

If you have something bad to say about Blizz, come at me bro.
Ah, Well i mostly put the 1450 time limit to prevent katana post but, lets just say that for europe the time limit is 1600. .

Oakshott type XIV. It's simple and beautiful.
Mostly seems like an excuse for you to express your anti-weeaboo fetish, but I'll play.
The Arabian Saif was a sword ahead of its time in that era:
Characterized by heavy pommels, curved blades, and being a good deal thinner/faster than a scimitar - it was the mother of most European curved swords (ex. Calvary swords) after the Renaissance.
Alternately like Kujako - any Irish/Scottish Claymore or variant of which was pretty much the apex battle sword of that era (it helped that they had the best steel, which is why a variant never took off in Asia).
The Claymore family is essentially Europe's Katana - a sword wield-able either one or two-handed, able to out-reach one-handed swords (a clear advantage against a gladius or cutlass), while maintaining much of the speed/fluidity of single-hand weapons (an advantage over bigger weapons like warhammers/greatswords/axes).
Wow, beautiful weapon. Well, after a few minutes of struggling with inserting a picture, Kilij is a more accurate term for what i meant..

Seems like a rather odd set of cutoff dates. I rather like the Rapier, but it was apparently invented in 1500, so it's out.
'Twas a cutlass swipe or an ounce of lead
Or a yawing hole in a battered head
And the scuppers clogged with rotting red
And there they lay I damn me eyes
All lookouts clapped on Paradise
All souls bound just contrarywise, yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!
Lightsaber.
Ah, read the post above.
Well that thread ended quickly.

I've always thought polearms of all kinds are neat. Spears, halberds, naginata. Cheap weapons with varying, some times elegant fighting styles like. Reach, power, speed, elegance, versatility.
It's a pity so few games are able to implement them.
Why limit the time range from 900-1600 AD? you miss out on all the good old swords.
Bare in mind that the oldest known swords also originated around 3300 BC so you are practically disallowing majority of swords throughout history to be of relevance.
Guess with the very limited scope i would have to go for the Rapier though, purely based on aesthetics and style of fighting. I prefer pierce weapons to slashing and combined with their lovely hilt designs for blocking and protecting the hands.
Outside of the date range but the Gladius has a lot of history. Made of steel too, who would've thought Romans had steel? Maybe it was like concrete which was another tech lost after the Roman collapse?

Hey... if they get to pick rapier then I'm getting Katzbalger, which is early 16th century. Just noticed the dates in the title and OP differ...
