Lightbulb Do you get attached with your video-game characters?

Greetings and Salutations my beloved champions! How are you today?

So, straight up question for you:

Do you get attached with your video-game characters? Like, let's say, your character in Skyrim/WoW/Mass Effect/your Asura Thief in GW2? (Did you see what I did there? tee hee).

    Why do you like him/her/it?

    See you soon!

not "attached" in that kind of way, but i couldnt imagine playing FF XIV with a different character than the one i created when i started playing. the story involves your character so much, different from WoW where you are just an adventurer.

    pardon my english

Those times can be precious for some peupel, some have no friend, no family, maybe are very sick with cancer, severe asthm etc.... don't mock every possiblities with this lack of empathy of yours.

Those characters, feelings, will be remembered for ever... meanwhile you are forgetting some old friends or even some of your family members...

Don't be cheap, don't mock peupel so easily.

I only have one piece of advice: If you ever play X-COM, don't get attached.

Attached enough that I wouldn't feel comfortable simply deleting that character.

    some I do.

Mostly my mains, since when I'm in a MMO community I become known by that persona to guildies and such.

I have RL friends that I originally met through WoW that became friends outside of WoW that sometimes will call me by my characters name if they try to get my attention fast just from using that name for years in Ventrillo and such,

I'm attached enough that if I roll an alt, I might make it reach max level but after that I just AFK on my main without progressing my alts. Playing WoW with anything but my own Warrior (I've played a friend's warrior) feels like weird and unappealing.

You're getting exactly what you deserve.

I get very attached to my characters, when I'm playing a game where I can actually create my own. Games like Mass Effect, or even Heroes of the Storm, where you play someone else's characters.... not so much. I especially hate games like Marvel Heroes, where they had a perfectly good opportunity to explain the multiple Peter Parkers with their whole "Alternate Earth" thing, but... didn't.

Dungeons and Dragons is awesome. It would be less awesome if I had to play as Drizzt every time.

Mordin, so much Mordin. Depressed me for days.

I care about some of the characters I play as. Silent protagonists, like in Skyrim, not so much... but games like Mass Effect, where I defined Shepard through my choices, actions and relationships? I become hugely attached to her and her crew.

Appreciate your time with friends and family while they're here. Don't wait until they're gone to tell them what they mean to you.

Attached to the characters? No. Attached to the time invested in the characters? I suppose so.

Most of the time I do, yes. A perfect example was Mass Effect. I was very involved with Mass Effect. Each character felt like they were real friends and at the end I felt like I was leaving them forever (I say forever because I can't bring myself to play through the trilogy again after that shit fucking ending for Mass Effect 3). It sounds weird but after all the adventures you go through for each game you really start to develop like this bond with each character and you become really attached to them at least I did. Was one of the most memorable games I have ever played. Another good one was Red Dead Redemption.

I have never cried for video game characters but I will admit that at the end of Red Dead Redemption and Mass Effect 3, I came close, I had that like tight feeling in my chest after seeing what happened. They were both shocking endings even though I fucking hated all three endings for Mass Effect 3 especially the red ending. THEY NEVER EXPLAINED IT!!! Seriously how do you end such a great trilogy as Mass Effect on a cliffhanger?! Ugh it was just so irritating as you can see.

Yes. It's the only way I can spend a lot of time in an MMO. I come up with a theme and go for it.

In mmo's somewhat. I love my monk, and making a new one if my old one got deleted for example wouldn't be the same. In RPG's i get attached like fuck. Not so much to the main character, although i still did love my femshep, but more so to the side characters. I fucking miss Morrigan so much from Dragon Age, and Garrus from ME.

    To the characters? no

To the time i spent leveling those characters? yes, but only when i was a raider. Now that i just play games casually i wont hesitate to stop playing my level 90-100 WoW character that i've been playing for 8 years to go play a different game thats more fun. I wont delete characters just to delete them however. There has to be a really good reason for me having to do that, like if i'm moving off a server. Or maybe if i want to delete a level cap toon that just hit level cap to roll a new one cause i'm out of character slots. I've done that in SWTOR where i deleted a level 50 bounty hunter that just hit 50 so that i could roll a new bounty hunter. I liked the class *that* much that i didnt mind deleting the level 50 toon.

I spent a lot of time and work on my priest in wow, shadow priest ofc.. the only spec =)
But I think I was more attached to her when I was more into wow, however if I was to play wow actively again (as in, more than doing garrisons in the morning), that priest is what I would play and unlock the serious stuff on :P She's a pink gnome now, but she has been draenei in the past when priests couldn't be gnome, and bloodelf when we went to the horde side, so it's just being a powerful shadowpriest hero... no matter shape and size (but she will never change gender :P).
Shadowpriest is amazing class design, just hoping for one to make it into heroes of the storm =)

Bounty hunters were nice, I rolled one because I could get Blizz as companion.. adorable Blizz. Blizz and my bounty hunter could dance together, I don't know if they still can, haven't played since it went f2p so I don't know how much they stole from me

It depends what characters we're talking about.

Stuff like WoW? I'm not really attached with the character, but the time that I've spend on them and items that I've acquired. Stuff like BioShock Infinite, where there are established characters that are deep and compelling, yes, I do become attached to the characters. Speaking of, I need to find another great, story-driven game...
