How the GOP can destroy the threat of Trump (and how Trump can avoid it)

Trump's lead in the polls is stabilizing and he's got control of the primary at this point. The GOP establishment wants to dislodge him, but his threat of a 3rd party run means they have to convince people he's not an option.

It comes down to the first debate. The rest of the candidates should all share notes and study with each other prior to the first debate. They should share expertise on various topics. They should share knowledge about topics that Trump probably doesn't have. Then the moderator should ask specific questions about those topics to everyone. Everyone will be able to answer knowledgably about the topics except for Trump. This will reinforce the notion that Trump is the least informed candidate on the stage. This tactic would likely end his campaign for the GOP nomination AND cost him enough support so that he cannot mount an independent run either.

For Trump to win, he has to recognize that he is truly the leader of the field and that his party will stab him in the back if it can....and do what is appropriate - - namely, not show up at the debates. He has absolutely nothing to gain from debating the rest of the clowns on that stage. If he shows up, it will be a long long nite of defending his record from everyone else. There is no point in subjecting himself to that. Trump would be better served just taking full command of his campaign and not debating anyone else.

If Trump doesn't debate anyone, he could carry this show all the way to the end.

I agree. But it will be impossible for Trump to win if he debates a field of candidates that are coordinated against him.

I think he could try debating 1 person, or maybe 2 at the same time. But not a field.

The one huge flaw that could and probably will backfire totally with this line of thinking is this.

Trump doesn't have to win, he just has to show that everyone was conspiring against him, against America, then spin it to his favor that they are so ingrained in what they want, they don't care what YOU want in a leader. In one turn he just painted the entire party bad and he is the one republican that listens to what the people need, what the people want, then bam no republican has any chance against Trump anymore without automatically alienating a ton of people.

This election will be fun with all the chess games going on :O

Ill probably vote libertarian this time around, I wonder who will be our choices for the final election =/

I'm don't know a lot about American politics, but I do know that if you base your campaign on insults and shouting, that not being informed is not to big of a concern.

A lot of the people who say they would vote for Trump are the same people who vote for dogs in elections for town mayor. They just want to stir things up.

If The Donald wins the primary and becomes the Republican nominee the person most shocked will be The Donald.

The Donald is running for the free worldwide publicity worth millions of dollars of advertising for his corporation.

He cant run by avoiding debates and it would also be impossible for Don Trump to avoid debates. It's not in his self-aggrandizing spotlight seeking character.

He's quite more popular than that. The average general election poll on RCP has it 51.8% Hillary, 37% Trump. The most recent poll has it Hillary +12%. That's ridiculously close considering she is a juggernaut. I wonder what that poll would look like if he faced Biden, Sanders, or someone else.

You assume the other candidates are not equally as bad.

At this point, what is stopping the GOP candidates from appealing to a broad base is the (R).

Mass collusion in a debate is going to backfire hard when the public finds out.

"Innocent" Trump gets ganged up on by Republican establishment.

Hey, I'm all in favor of a third party splitting the right wing vote.

I'm more interested in the Hillary - Bernie debates. Also, this is probably the funniest video I've seen in a while. Chris Matthews absolutely handed that clown without the makeup Debbie Wasserman-Schultz when he asked her what the difference between a Democrat and a Socialist is.

Not American but... subverting the debate process would not be undermining its value and the democratic process?

I doubt even he knows what a 'Socialist' is.

They're largely a dog and pony show, particularly early on. 10+ people in a debate just means a series of one minute stump speeches.

The American debate process has no value besides entertaining idiot undecided voters and is not particularly democratic either.

I wonder how much he will donate to the republican that beats him in the primaries...

No, because the American political discourse apparently doesn't have room for, you know, political science.

The other clowns all have a better shot of winning the general election.
