    Oh, -that-.

Yes, I happen to agree that a lot of sociological recommendations are biased. But I do not think this is an issue with the field itself; more of a 'I find this conclusion uncomfortable so I am going to fudge it slightly to make it more palatable'.

Who would have thought people would get so angry about a 3rd science text book. People are so insecure about their beliefs that they can't stand anything else be said.

Each state has a different version of each book.

I recently moved from Georgia to Louisiana, completely different books.

I'm not against disability benefits. I'm against pensions that kick in at absurdly early ages. Nowhere in my posts will you find any arguments against disability benefits for injured veterans.

No, it doesn't. That's an assumption brought about by a poor and primitive philosophical view of the world.

My own philosophy is completely opposite. I don't believe in coercion. I don't believe in taking by force. If you must do the latter then you've greatly devalued what you've gained through the action.

I'm only in favor of cutting benefits for ungrateful veterans that want to dismantle Medicare and the like.
Welfare is not a contractual agreement, at least not one where you exchange service for a tangible benefit.

    Who's talking about dismantling Medicare?

Also, it's good to hear you do not support honoring contractual agreements. Maybe someday the school district you work for will go belly up, and not pay the money your owed

You're not going to find many 101 classes that want debate for good reason. If you're in 101 you have no knowledge basis by which to offer meaningful debate. Your job is to shut up and learn.

Welfare is part of the social contract.

And you were compensated while you were serving.

    Or by, you know, reality.

Society, from the tribal unit to the empire, is based upon debt; whether that be social or individual. Thus the health of a society is contingent on its ability to enforce the repayment of debt.

Damn, I'm actually kind of sad.

You were one of the few posters here I had a genuine respect for.

Anyway, I'm sure you won't understand this, but you really don't have an idea of just how much military service takes out of you physically and mentally. Theres a reason the retirment time in service is 20 years.

Not necessarily true. You take the 101 class because it is a pre-req for the 201 class.

Then I guess you would be for dismantling pensions for anyone in the country receiving one from a union negotiated contract?

Tangible service for a negotited benefit is not welfare

Your reason for taking the class is not the same as the reason the class exists.

It's the difference between "what" is the prereq and "why" it's the prereq.

Governments should invest in this but they will still need private funding, however price control is important but plants can't function long term on losses. And I promise you energy prices with nuclear and coal plants will rise, especially the first source nuclear.

My country government back in the day were fools and sold of all their influence in Energy production what means we have a shortage and need to import from neighboring countries, A french company is now in control of the remaining plants what causes a lot of problems for the people here both in price and lack of investment, what almost created a shortage.

I'm in favor of replacing it with a much more effective compulsory superannuation scheme, yes.

Are you getting money from the state that isn't a salary or wage? It's public assistance, by definition.

No way, they are almost revised yearly here the most i had were books that were 3 years old but those contained no errors or outdated information. The only old book that was 10 years old was an Atlas.

So you're in favor of debates where the vast majority of people are uninformed?

I must resist the urge to make a crack about American politics.

I'd argue that's the sign of a sick society that's rotten at its core. Weak. Can easily crumble financially. Basically selling off security and stability for unnatural growth. It's a society that can be easily manipulated, coerced, and broken up. Corrupt. Appears strong on the surface, sure, but like all bankrupt ideologies - self-consuming in the long run.

I have little to no faith in it personally and believe we'd be better off without it all.

Anyway, this is going nowhere. I was enjoying talking to the European fellow more to be honest so let's just drop this. You believe in society as it is and I see it as some sickly monstrosity posturing to make itself seem more than it is. Neither of us are going to convince the other differently. That's fine. I just want to move on from this thread before we get too circular in our arguments.

    So good day.

Lots of people work hard. Most of us don't get to leverage it into guaranteed income in our late 30s or early 40s. Look, it's fine, I have nothing personal against anyone that managed to leverage a fucked up system in their favor, but the system is fucked up. I have friends that are Public Health Service that are going to receive huge pensions for no reason other than that uniformed service benefits are scandalously large and no one will say shit about it because they don't want to look like they're being dicks to soldiers.
