Third of the way down
Wow, sounds like you were paid pretty well. Not as well as me, in terms of $/h, but better than me in terms of $/y. 16 hours a day though... I would just die, probably. The longest I worked was in Japan in, I think, 2011, when everyone was away during detector maintenance and just 2 of us + a British guy who was doing some computing had to run through some detector diagnostics. We would come on the site at 8 AM and be there until 10 PM or so, 5 days a week; the rest 2 days we would work about half that time at home. It lasted just a few weeks, and wasn't really tiring, just monotonous.
I've heard much worse from people who used to work in Alaska. They did fish packaging or something like that... They said their shifts would last for 30+ hours sometimes, but the money was well worth it.
Ha-h, you are also a member of the club-26! I won't join it until July. You are all old cowboys here!

I was 25 up until last month! :P
Alaska overall pays really well just because of how far away most places are from everything; but also almost every job gets some grade of hazard pay, of some sort just because of the conditions. (Exception to a few places.)
I'm a Kitsune! Not a cat, or a mutt!
