It's a pretty fuckin' good time to be a nerd. We live in a world where clever nerds are well compensated in their professions, have endless things to nerd out over (even beer and sports are the domain of nerds now!), and are attractive to the opposite sex.

I suppose I like "nerdy" things. But I feel like some of them are pretty common in an overall sense. For example, liking video games doesn't seem overly nerdy (so to speak), though it does fall into the unfashionable side in general social consideration.

However, I feel I am nerd because of the specificity with which I am interested in 'nerdy' things.

I like D&D. It's alright. But more specifically, I like game rule systems. Number crunching character spreadsheets, pouring over the rules of grappling, finding the optimal dual class breakpoints, calculating THAC0 or planning out the exact composition of my Space Wolves is what I actually love. I could not give a shit less about role playing an elf or pretending to be a wizard.

This follows through for other things I have interest in as well.

I play video games, but I don't actually like them very much. I enjoy the systems and design that allow them to function.

I enjoy music, but specifically have a keen interest in noise, extreme metal, art rock, etc.

In most regards feel I am pretty average and not necessarily 'nerdy' or 'geeky'. I don't care for statues, cutesy shirts, consoles, cosplay, toys, anime, et cetera.
