Well, Australia uses the Westminster system of government featuring two house of parliament; A house of representatives and a senate. Each sitting member of parliament is elected from a named division, or electorate. You're probably wondering how the hell this make Australia's democracy superior to America's?

One simple reason really: Australia has an electorate called Batman.

You don't have an electorate called Batman. Batman is awesome, therefore our democracy is more awesome.

We always have one sitting member of parliament who can legitimately say "I'm Batman."

This member of parliament can claim the BE Batman without being a billionaire playboy with dead parents. This in turn enshrines the Australian spirit of the fair go.

Thankfully here in Australia he have giant cattle farms in excess of 1000 square km where they herd the cattle by helicopter, so bullshit on a mass scale is fairly unlikely. It's usually much more spread out.

And the US is better because it's not illegal to abstain from voting. I know $26 for not voting may not seem like a big deal, but it's still pretty crazy to me.

I'm surprised the Republican's don't adopt the Australian method. Its my understanding that people tend to get loaded before voting and drunk voters lean conservative.
