DPS sounds more like a disease - or at least a condition - than DD. Sounds like having PTSD and PMS at the same time.
DD is more accurate because daredevil (stands in deadly shit).
DD is a bra size, DPS is what we do in game. Seriously it has always been DPS in any game I have played, don't think I have ever seen the term DD before this forum.
It's not as catchy? English really likes its three-syllable acronyms.
Also, there's this.
You can't beat it.

Because feminists. We all know DD is a type of measurement anyway.
The only accepted IRL meaning of DD is the ship classification of a Destroyer.
This is like the "toon" vs "character" argument again.
DD was used in games before WoW, wow introduced a lot of new people to the game and so incorrect terminology was used.
Those who played before know what it means, the newer and larger group of players didn't, so they associated it with something people know was related to damage dealers.
I think originally in dungeons and dragons people used the term "damage dealer", as those games aren't real time etc it makes sense.
But when real time computer games became popular, "damage dealer" wasn't enough anymore to accurately describe what people meant. As in a real time game not just the amount of damage you can deal matters, but also the time it takes you to do that. So i imagine over time people started to use the term "damage per second" more then "damage" just to differentiate between high "dps" spells and high "damage" spells.
the argument someone made on page one that "deeps" or even "dps" is easier to pronunce then "DD" makes sense to me too, people abbreviate when they can.

DD = Direct Damage. In one game I played in the past it meant "Damage that bypasses shields", but in most it meant the opposite of AoE.
Basically, that term is already used.
DPSer is what I usually say when I refer to someone who does DPS.

It's easy:
Are you retarded and are your parents siblings? Call it DPS.
If not, call it DD.
Well it is weird that DD is less popular because DPS is basically a Double Penetration in the Ass - Dee Pee Ass.
All right, gentleperchildren, let's review. The year is 2024 - that's two-zero-two-four, as in the 21st Century's perfect vision - and I am sorry to say the world has become a pussy-whipped, Brady Bunch version of itself, run by a bunch of still-masked clots ridden infertile senile sissies who want the Last Ukrainian to die so they can get on with the War on China, with some middle-eastern genocide on the side
DPS is because you have higher DPS than the other specs. While DD refers to you being able to do damage. All roles can deal damage, meaning all are damage dealers. That is how I feel about it, even if you can do the reverse "all roles can do some DPS...."
DD was never even a thing in wow untill mop. Before that the only time I've seen it is from xrealm germans/frenchmen etc. But never on EU English.
