Well, I would say the main difference is that the terms you mention are pretty well defined, while "SJW" is less so. Regardless, it is not okay to label anyone as anything when it is done just to silence them. If they actually exhibit racism, homophobia or so on, that is a different matter.

It's really not. Just because you personally want to call somebody a 'racist', 'sexist' or 'homophobe' because they personally meet your definition of those things doesn't mean you can just ignore their arguments.

Oh, and on the mod thing...try reading the site rules, it'll help you avoid most of the infractions and bans, and if you still get banned despite that, you can appeal to the global mods.

Trust me, thorough explanations of how what I do that gets me 'banned' not being listed anywhere in the site rules is a common futile occurrence in my ban appeals. Apparently all you have to do is call something 'trolling' to justify any ban ever though, even if the person wasn't actually trolling. Reasoning has apparently become less and less important in the mod's justifications for my bans though.

Oh, I probably could have deciphered it if you quoted the part of my post that contained the movie. Yes, I saw it once, and yes, with the relatively expansive interaction I have had with many people online of varying beliefs and credibility, I can safely say that behavior similar to that depicted in the movie is an extremely common occurrence.

American, Canadian and EU colleges IMHO.

These topics are hotly discussed because forums to discuss them are limited. On campus, going against a particular SJ person could get you in a world of hurt. In my experience, they aren't above using petty grudges and vendetta's to fuck with you. Such as trying to get you kicked out of Dorm housing, using T.A. friends to put the thumb on your scale in grading, using rules and regulations to exact any kind of vengeance on you for slights. More over they tend to have a hand in Student Government and friends in administration.... or a cowardly school administration.

So discussing these issues in a genuine and fair forum is very hard to do. You have to be careful what you say or who you say it to.

The internet is unique in that it is largely anonymous and thus you are less likely to be attacked IRL. BUTTTTTTTTT many message boards, platforms for discussion ect are also increasingly censored so there are a dwindling number of venues to actually talk about this in a constructive and open way. Hence an SJ topic every five seconds.

Do you really think it is an uncommon occurrence to ignore or chastise non-secular worldviews in a college classroom? Of course, I guess this ignores the fact that non-secular worldviews are basically taught as fact in even grade school classrooms as well. If you don't conform to what is taught in school as the norm, you are just classified as wrong and that is the end of it.

"I'm innocent" is the most common "defence". Doesn't mean it's never true, but me not being privy to your bans or the mod reasons, I can't say.

You haven't been paying attention to the news much, have you?

We now know with certainty that police patrol around black neighborhoods far more than white neighborhoods. It's a policy at this point. They found drug usage between whites and blacks to be about equal, but blacks saw far more arrests for it. A lot of domestic crimes also get swept under the rug for the white areas.

In general, you seem to have missed the fact that crime statistics mean jack shit when it's coming out of a police system that specifically targets blacks.

Aside from that, it's incredibly difficult to prove a social trend. All I'm saying is that I have personally encountered this ideology. People that I know have encountered it, and it's kind of worrying to me. Dismissing that as "right wing rhetoric " is very annoying.

I wasn't being dismissive of you, personally. I was saying these concerns are nothing new. The "problem" of PC culture extends back generations. Your friend may have told you about some visible anecdote recently, but that does not make this a recent phenomenon. Hippies were doing strange shit on college campuses 50 years ago, much stranger than speaking in Tumblrisms or whatever. They were creating apocalyptic cults, taking LSD in public, and inventing degenerate sports like Frisbee.

For me personally, it was both. In my twenties, I was very liberal open minded and had all kinds of Ideas about the world. In my thirties I started realizing the world is a shitty place and people truly only care about what affects them. Switched from the Democratic party to the Republican party at the age of 34. Now in my forties, I'm positive the world is a shitty place no matter what anyone does and / or says. I stopped worrying about everyone else and started worrying more about my family and the life they are going to have when I'm gone. Having kids may have had a huge part in my transformation as well.

Which pretty much vindicates the viewpoint that Republicans as a whole are selfish and socially irresponsible people that shouldn't be permitted to vote much less comment on public policy.
