Why is maternity/paternity even a thing?

I'll be in a nursing home after a lifetime of working. If the state doesn't repay 50 years of hard work it's a pretty shitty state.

Then I would suggest not advocating policies that help create an inverted pyramid (without immigration to counteract it). I rather not end up like Japan.
