“Do not lose time on daily trivialities. Do not dwell on petty detail. For all of these things melt away and drift apart within the obscure traffic of time. Live well and live broadly. You are alive and living now. Now is the envy of all of the dead.” ~ Emily3, World of Tomorrow
Words to live by.
Relative to our dominant Western & Eastern cultures currently, yes. We are a tremendously destructive force to our own planet at the moment.
We can still sustain a few billion more. Means of productions and distribution of necessary food, water, medicine and shelter is rather good. Not everyone on Earth has these things in abundance, natch. But that is more a political problem than technological or "spacing".
The way we live is what is the problem. We are tremendously and uniquely destructive animals.
Dan Brown (even though it is Dan Brown)'s book Inferno is a pretty good basis for this.
I actually like the way such a topic is discussed and without spoilers... is handled in the long run 'for the plot'.
There are too many people for the amount of greed and lack of awareness in usage that is currently going on throughout the world.
But it's mainly us 1st world countries that are going to cause all the issues, the small countries, in their development are actually coming up with sustainable means and if we actually adapted such things then it'd be a better place.
We stopped searching for monsters under our beds when we realized that they were inside us.
Tell me something, my friend. You ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight?
Yes there are too many people.
Overpopulation is at the root of the vast majority of our modern woes, as too many fight over too few resources.
The degradation of the planet is the result of a desperate attempt to meet an ever expanding demand.
The end result will either be nature corrects the imbalance in some horrific way, likely a combination of the four horsemen of the apocalypse, or through our 'ingenuity' we conquer nature and support this ever expanding population at the mere expense of totally wrecking our world and eliminating quality of life.
On the bright side I'll be dead before either of these horrors come to pass.
Take that generations of the future, sucks to be you.
Probably, yes.
Can we really do anything about it or curb and not sound like horrible monsters in the process? No.
May come a breaking point, though.
Of course we're too much.
Yes, population levels are at about 1000x what the maximum should be.
You all know that these poor 3rd worlderners don't want to stay poor? They want to adapt to our great wastefull western style. More and more people will gain acces to this destructive behaviour and it will only get worse over time. Oil is limited after all.
Yes, because Earth may be the NAME given for the whole planet but earth isn't a planet, it's the result of piss, shit and death of life also called compost + every kind of cosmic alchemy.
Humankind is Terraforming Earth like this, so now there is not a lot of earth... so there are too many humans.
And it's not like Permaculture design can be hard to realize... You don't need chimical shit and pesticides, you don't even need water... LIFE prevails.
Humankind is fucking useless.
For the way people in the west are living if everyone else wants the same standards, yes.
That said, birth rates have been dropping globally for decades, and humanity have already gone past the peak child point, meaning its expected to cap out at about 10 billion in total.
Limited when the master race is intellectually inferior... If you don't kill, exterminate Life, you can get everything unlimited and more since the Planet is an Alchemist and can product a lot more subtle substances.
But hey, when you want to use death for your "" civilisation "", you might keep some life to feed your beliefs.
Cannibalism soon btw.
Don't worry, Japan is fixing the problem slowly.
There should be way fewer, like 5 times less of what there is now. Stupid poor people are breeding too much.
Well, depends, I guess. I like places with few people around (that are still livable) and the more people we are, the fewer of those there are. In terms of what we can support, no, not too many. And as we grow a larger population, we also learn how to get more out of the planet. So we'll do fine for a good long while yet.

"Do you want a game with no casuals so about 500 players?"
Unfortunately too many people only care about the now, and couldn't give a damn what the world would be like in 2 generations time.
That being said, in the world of commercialism there is no food shortage yet... a lot of perfectly fine food is discarded simply because they don't look appealing, through marketing people want "that spotless red apple".

Huge difference since ancient times for example where rome one if the biggest cities in the world hold only like 50k people, now there lives 50k people in my small town. Just to get some perspective. I would rather have the old population back.
The world is not overpopulated; it only seems that way because the richest 1% hoards and monopolizes the majority of earth's resources and refuses to share it around.
