Steam - Fallout 3 GOTY Edition crashes upon hitting "play" every time

So I just decided to redownload FO3 to play through to wait for FO4, and no matter what I do, every time I hit play it crashes. I've downloaded it 3 times to be sure, and it is the same error each and every time. I click play on Steam, it brings up the little box that has Play, Settings, Options, Data Files, Tech Support, etc, and when I hit play it crashes. Here's the log:

Like I said, I've completely deleted and reinstalled it 3 times, and each time this is the result.

did you check out http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Fallout_3? it has a number of fixes for different issues including several for crashes on startup.

Point? Messing around with windows live solves a lot of these problems.

When it was released this game was notorious for having issues with all it's redistributes, apparently steam thinks your time is theirs to waste and has neglected to fix any of it which is *absurdly* common for them. Happy hunting.

I've never *ever* had Windows Live and I've played Fallout 3 for years on Steam just fine.

Have a look at this, xlive.dll is one of the relics of GFWL.
