Although it's an odd question since, if you pick germany you would end up being in danger of soviet forces also near the end of the war.

I'd say Germany. Not as bad as Russia if you were aryan or anything other than a communist or ethnic minority.

There has never really been a regime that can come close to the level of state repression that was experienced in the Stalinist Soviet Union. You could generally live fairly safely under Hitler's regime as long as you behaved. Under Stalinism, nobody had cause NOT to fear the midnight KGB knock on the door.

In terms of personal safety, Nazi Germany would be infinitely better to live in than the Soviet Union under Stalin.

Though in saying that, it would get problematic when the war came. Especially when Soviet Russia comes to the party. And rapes everything. Still, I'd rather take my chances with ze Germans.

I agree Nazi Germany would be better but there were plenty of midnight knocks made by the Gestapo on behaved citizens. Parents had to fear being reported by there own children.

Boy how many clueless people are here. Seeing that Putin has put an end to many "capitalists" (see, I hesitated to use word "total criminals") who got rich basically over the night and on top of that, he protects own people, I'd rather live there than support a mad man that wants to conquer the world. Soviet Russia between 60s and 90s wasn't that bad place to live at all. I know, since I was born in USSR and lived there until Soviet Union was disbanded back in 1992.

Nazi Germany wasn't a bad place to live at all too. Unless you were a Jew, disabled, Slav, homosexual and so on... but the SU had a fair share of that too. :P
