Okay, so it doesn't officially count as a holiday, since it doesn't have time off, but I was thinking when looking around town at all the halloween decorations, that when it comes down to it, this really is a great 'holiday', or celebration.
Its at a great time of year, its freezing cold in mid winter, but just on the outskirts of it so you have that great autumnal light, golden leaves falling, and no ice on roads or anything.
At halloween, you don't have to think about buying presents for anyone, if your feeling festive all you need is a tub of sweets of treat or treaters, or not if you really don't want to, and the best part is you can finish off the leftover candy.
You don't have to sit and watch boring christmas movies, instead its an excuse to find great horror movies to watch.
If your so inclined, you can go to a halloween party, which just has better costumes then any other holiday, and at night like a party should.
There is no cooking, no wrapping things up, the only decorations are usually pumpkins which can be creative.
And you only need throw them out the next day.
There is no spending hundreds on things each year like christmas, no need to visit relatives you don't want to see, and all in all it had something for everyone. Infact the only thing I can think some people might find awkward is if you have children having to design them costumes and take them around neighbors houses for treats, but when then its a good excuse to show off your costume making skills and shove it in their faces.
