Why are there so many damn cameras everywhere now???

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that every time a cell phone or a laptop or tv is purchased these days, there's a gd camera on it. I don't mind the cameras that face away from us but who TF orders a camera that faces us on every fqing device we purchase? I don't ever remember anyone asking me if I wanted a GD camera pointed right at my face for every laptop, or cell phone, or tv....do you? WTF is going on with our society?

I'm a bit annoyed by this because there is obviously a cost associated with manufacturing cameras that are pointed right at us for these products that are made. Who TF is subsidizing these costs because it's not me....I never remembered anyone asking me if I wanted a gd camera pointed at my face. It's amazing too cuz whenever I try to uninstall the drivers for the GD camera pointed at my face the drivers reinstall after I reboot the computer.

It goes to show you how society today is taking away our privacy at an alarming rate. They have conditioned the masses to simply ignore the fact that every time we use our laptop or cell phones there is a fqing camera pointed right at our faces and whether or not we think we are able to turn it off,the truth of the matter is we are not able to turn the GD thing off.

This is the world we are head towards. A socialist society where individuals do not have privacy or individual rights and we are being conditioned to think that it is OK for these things to occur. People really need to wake tf up cuz if we keep walking around in this state of denial all the while allowing this sh!t to happen to us, it will be too late when we finally take our heads out our @$$e$.

Rant over....get that GD camera out my face!

What does it matter if it has a camera, if it's never even on, as it sounds like you'd never use it?

The ignorance and sheep mentality is strong with this one.

If your laptop has a camera in it and you don't want it working just disconnect it? I don't understand how this is an issue.

So you are one of those people who believe because something is there it's constantly on and monitoring you? As for not being able to uninstall the drivers then perhaps you are doing something weird or wrong as I haven't installed them on my laptop after redoing it recently because I've been lazy and haven't had a need for it.

Also, the reason most things have a camera these days is because that is how people can communicate. Some people use them to have video conversations with relatives, friends, conferences and other things as it is much easier sometimes than using a telephone. There are many reasons and just because you don't like something doesn't mean it shouldn't exist nor does it mean "the government is out to get you".

There really is no reason to attack other posters especially when he has a point. You are basically saying Device A has a camera so the government is spying on you. That is not the case. Some devices have cameras on constantly, but not all. Even then as much as every one wants to believe, not every camera feed or such is being sent to the government. There is no "sheep mentality" or "ignorance". There is simply not enough man power for everything that is being recorded to be reviewed by the government. Secondly, I don't see how the post was ignorant as you basically said the same thing while making your attacks.

I'm sorry if your view is different than others, but that doesn't make them ignorant or a sheep. Everyone has their own view on things.

OP you sound like Cid from FF7!

There is an advanced technique for blocking all of these GD cameras, its a strip of opaque tape.

Lucieta, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. I worked as a contractor for the USG for 12 years. Does the USG monitor its own people? Hell to the fqing yes. I'm not trying to be condescending but seriously...nevermind.

Um, what? This isnt a freaking Nikon uber camera designed for national geographic type photo ops they are sticking on your tv or your computer. It's a bloody web cam. It probably cost them about 2 bucks, maybe 5 or 8 if it was a really good one to stick that there. It's not like the cost of your Laptop somehow skyrocketed just beccause apple deccided to stick a webcam on it.

The resolution on the cameras facing you are sometimes just as good if not better than the ones you use to take pictures. Just test it out and find out for yourself. It's creepy actually.

If a device has a camera, can it be used to spy on you? Yes, and anyone claiming otherwise is ignorant. Just because you "turn it off" doesn't mean it can't still run. It can easily be accessed by voyeurs (like the recent issues with baby monitors/security cameras) or law enforcement/the government, depending on the device. However, I'd be more worried about audio than video (you think your cell phone's microphone isn't always listening?).

The real question is, does it bother you that you can be watched/listened to at any time? Most people honestly don't care (whether you think they should is another discussion). For those that do, yes the only answer is the physically disable the cameras/microphones (covering them up or destroying them/their connections).

Ever since I saw that Russian site that hacked into people web cams I have my laptop and webcam covered. The thought of someone just watching me walk around naked in my flat holy shit.

Laptop/tablet cameras are easily defeated by taping a piece of paper over the viewport. Sure you can't 'turn it off' but you can either obstruct the camera easily or unplug it if it's a peripheral.

Not too hard to solve. Many security groups recommend taping cameras you don't use.

A camera can't film anywhere a human eye can't see. Your privacy is no different in that regard, the evidence against you is arguably stronger.

Okay so, #1 we need to agree that the cameras can be active and employed even if the product isn't connected to a network (Since it is easy enough to put a wireless micro-antenna in anything these days. That's a presumption we need to keep and maintain this entire thread because it is in fact true.

#2, we need to agree that even if we found a way to circumvent this, there's so many fallback surveillance utensils we're just not going to keep our privacy.

So the question really is #3, what's going to happen going forwards and how do we make sure it will all be okay?
