Carson is in the lead on the Republican side, beating Trump for the first time. I like Carson, a former neural surgeon, I like how he already has his plans and policies laid out so that when reporters ask, he can tell them what he wants to do as president, meanwhile the political types are hedging and evading the questions.

But he isn't much of a politician and you need to be a politician to take on the most political job in the world.

Look at the Hillary and Bernie charts! You can't say the debates are meaningless after you look at that.

Me too, I like how he says he got the idea for his tax plan from the Bible. I also like how he doesn't let pesky little facts get in his way, such as the fact that his flat tax rate would increase the deficit by trillions of dollars. It makes it so much easier to identify him as a clueless wackjob who shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the Presidency.

classic expectations game. If the audience thinks your opponent is a better debater a tie is suddenly a victory for you

Leaders are defined as people who have low social status. They are people who the aristocrats dislike. These people make great leaders because their decisions aren't clouded by a need to maintain their social status. Long term they make the correct decisions more often. Unfortunately, voting is perhaps the worst possible method of getting true leaders into office. Voters weed out candidates that have low social status, which is exactly what they shouldn't be doing.

In this cycle, there were only two viable options, one on each side. Two people who the aristocrats disliked and had low social status. Joe Biden was one, and he dropped out. The only one left standing is Donald Trump, and now he's dropping in the polls.

That's why its very hard to get an effective government. Trump is the obviously correct choice now with Biden out but voters will turn on him. Anyone else who gets elected will make a poor president because they will make decisions to maintain their social status instead of doing things to make the nation better.

Most people's instincts are wrong. Doing what your gut tells you is a terrible idea, too. But anyway, voters look at Trump and think he's too extreme which is the wrong approach.

For a sports analogy, you'd say a bad coach makes his top priority to not get fired. If faced with a decision that could win the game, but if it goes wrong he will lose social status among his peers and boss, he would rather lose the game, because protecting his social status is more important than correct decisions. And that's a very real thing that happens in sports and it happens in politics too. A good coach will make winning the priority and will take risks to get those wins.

What voters do is look at the guy who wants to win, call him an extremist and an idiot, and want to vote him out and put in a guy that plays to not lose.

For clarification, it would add deficit if we make the one assumption that all government accountants make but is the most idiotic and demonstrably false assumption you can make -- that taxation has no effect on economic activity in either business or consumer behavior. The same reasoning would tell a widget company that always raising prices will always raise revenue.
