In order to "hunt them down" you need guns. You need to be prepared for extreme violence as it is the only way to stop a group hell bent on burning the planet to the ground...Im willing to bet the majority of Anon is not capable of nor prepared for that.

ISIS has a presence on social media and is utilizing tech. While Anonymous is not a deadly threat, they can hamper and troll the shit out of ISIS and get in the the way of digital recruitment.

On that note, Anonymous' first attack just completed.

2000 ISIS twitter accounts have been deleted. That doesn't prevent ISIS from communicating or recruiting, but Twitter is their primary social media platform - and Anonymous just killed ISIS' social media presence in a day.

They can always make new accounts, but they will have to find each other and follow each other and so forth all over again - with new names and no existing networks. That'll cost time and effort from every single member of ISIS and their extended network - it's a big hassle and it'll waste thousands of manhours.

    *round of applause for Anonymous*

Edit: Also worth noting, this is just their first strike in response to Paris. Since declaring war on ISIS some months ago, Anonymous has supposedly closed over 10,000 ISIS twitter accounts and DoS'd hundreds of ISIS donation and recruitment portals on the darkweb.

I think they deserve a lot more credit than they are being given.

Heh. On the bright side, Anonymous going after ISIS accounts is a double win. First, it eliminates some of ISIS's methods of communication. Secondly, the more Anonymous "hacks", the easier is for someone track them down and put them down. /shrug

Security agencies are important to crack communications et al.

Anonymous isn't, nor will ever have the capabilities, of doing anything security agencies do. It's literally a bunch of script kiddies, with maybe a handful of knowledgeable people, who more than likely can't be assed to actually do anything practical.

They have standing armies all over the place. i cant see how some internet attacks will ruin them. Their influence has already been spread around the globe and they have "recruiters" all over as well. They dont need the internet presence that they used to. Its all just maintenance to them now.

Maybe basement dwelling freedom fighters should have focused on ISIS sooner.

    ^This

A lot of people confuse Anon with Lizard Squad or any number is idiots who use DDoS attacks and call it hacking to just disrupt the lives of normal people. They actually denounce the use of DDoS attacks claiming that its "childs play"

Historically Anon does most of its work for political reasons to out the morally corrupt. Everything from posting gay porn on the front page of the Westboro Baptist Church's website, to exposing a LARGE number of KKK members during the Confederate Flag debacle. They have a VERY long standing war against pedophiles. Go look up the series of events that they took responsibility for because its quite impressive.

In the end any help is good help. If all they can do is track people and expose them then that is still helping. I dont see what all the hate against them is all about.

The news media in the US talks about Anonymous like they are on the same level as ISIS - they can't wait for a cyber-terrorist group to report on - and they like to project their dreams of l33t hax0rs using their powers for 3vil onto Anonymous: even though it's a gross mischaracterization as far as I can tell.

On some level the "you may have beheaded some people today but we took down your twitter" dynamic is funny but I'm not quite sure this really scares ISIS. From everything I've heard, their recruitment happens typically at Mosque's - not really through social media, although it certainly doesn't hurt. Will be interesting to see if this does lead to bigger things though.

ISIS is supposedly pretty active on social media for recruiting and spreading "positive vibes" about themself, i'd say this does hurt them alot.
Names of recruiters and shit like that is being released aswell, and that is definitly a big blow.

As I was saying, if a large enough group of them can focus their attention and get shit done, they should be able to name names of some of the big donors. THEN someone should get their dicks stomped into the dirt. This discourages others from doing so, for they will not want their dicks stomped into to dirt.
Unfortunately there will be no focus. As soon as the next big news story in video game journalism breaks, they will go right back to fucking with the next Anita Sarkeesien.
Get a grip man! It's CHEESE!
