But even if she did hit him first, his retaliation to it isn't justified. It's really only justified if he felt she was an immediate threat or his life was in danger. Given that he's a body builder and she's much smaller than him and didn't have any weapons, I'd say he was fine. He hit out of anger - not self defense.

If someone much weaker and smaller than me hits me, I'm not going to go full Rambo on their ass.

Not to split hairs and it clearly doesn't apply here, but anyone who punches someone deserves to be knocked out. :P
