(US) Wow token spiked in the last few hours and the price almost doubled

Anyone know the reason? I thought this might would happen after Blizzcon, but we had a small spike after the event and the price later came back to "normal". Now it had a huge spike. Did I miss something?

EDIT: Many people are giving obvious reasons like "more demand etc". It's already expected that the token increase in price over time linearly since more players get gold to afford them and less players need to sell tokens for WoW gold. However, the sudden spike of a few hours is really strange and cannot be explained by these factors alone.

Some mentioned Hype over datamined information. I wonder how this information hyped only US players. It's still unclear. My only guess is that someone really rich purchased tons of tokens to apply to his account(s) so that he can have some years of gametime. The price is already going down as we speak.

Yeah - I thought the last spike was outrageous. I just looked now and did a double-take. First thing i said is "holy crap - it's just jumped up to EU prices!" :P

And all you at the EU who are asaying "it's normal for us" - trust me, if you were riding at 35+k for the past 2 months and it jumped to nearly 60k in 3 hours you would've been up on these boards too! :P

If I had to guess I would say that the supply entirely dried up. An infinite demand/supply ratio caused the pricing algorithm to spike like that. Hopefully it will return to its normal level in a few hours after demand adjusts.

If there is nothing suspicious going on on Bliz side with their "tinkering" with that "algorythm" they use, then that means there's been a massive drop off of players buying tokens to list on the AH that drove the price up in combination with a massive buy out of tokens for subs. The only anecdotal theory I can think on would be that this is the week after the 6month ban for botters expired and they're buying subs for gold en mass but Im not so sure. I think Bliz did some "tinkering" again.

Guaranteed its not the gold sellers - they are screwed, because this makes the price about 2.9K gold for $1 - which is lower than the poor dumb spammer in Orgrimmar was advertizing last night, LOL.

I don't think any hacks were involved. Legion datamining/beta coming soon has created a fair share of hype, as the different WoW channels have spiked in activity on Twitch too.

Let's not forget that having an active account is also a prerequisite to enter beta.

No, but prices here are so high, no one is buying them when they go even higher. There's a lot of stretch in the US prices, so people keep buying them and prices go up.
