Who has a PhD and who is working on one?

I'm really interested in who has a PhD. I know people say everyone on the internet has one, but who is actually going through it, and who has one already?

I'd manly like to know because I'm contemplating on enrolling a masters degree in January with the possibility of doing one later on, maybe you can share some stories on how it was, and what you did... I know we have some smart cookies here.

Don't have one. Probably won't continue after I'm done with the socionom stuff either.

Working on my PhD in Physics. Doing some particle physics stuff for CERN. Particle physics seems to be easier than most of the job fields to me: you just sit in front of computer all the time and code / read articles / look at histograms / prepare publications / e-mail colleagues. In comparison, I worked as a beach attendant in Virginia back in 2010 - now that was HARD.

Have one in physics, but nothing as glorious as the previous poster. The only hard part about it was having a baby in the middle and then returning to it after a year's break, trying to remember wtf I'd been doing :P But managed to wrap it up before baby #2 at least.

Well you got a PhD so you got that going for you and you worked twice as hard and that's only add to the enjoyment and accomplishment cheers and good luck with life

Got one in computer science. In the mathematical side of things. I'm a post-doc now.

Study hard in Masters. It's introduction to science. Aim for at least one (S)SCI publication. Pick your thesis topic as soon as possible and start working on it preferably before half-time of the first semester. Pick your supervisor carefully. Outcome of Masters or PhD depends on your supervisor as much as you.

Masters is easy but if you want to perform well in PhD, you want to study hard in this process and learn your topic particularly well. Publishing a quality paper is important for getting the admission for better universities. I studied a topic which I don't want to continue on PhD. It's going to be a pain in the ass for me. Don't make that mistake.

Physics, long ago. My advice, get a Masters for sure as it will definitely separate you from the pack when looking for a job. While you're doing that, if you find that you truly have a passion for the subject material and have a high degree of self motivation, then by all means go for it. If you don't plan on entering academia then financially you are probably better off stopping at a Masters but getting a PhD will open your eyes to a world of knowledge and understanding that very few get to experience.

Yes, I heard that one already more than once. Lots of supervisors are either just not that interested in you, or even worse, not even from the field you'd like to do your thesis. I already had that issue in my bachelor, albeit it didn't really matter that much considering it was just a bachelor.

A shit supervisor is the worst thing can happen to a student. It will drain entirety of your motivation to continue on higher education.

Despite still needing to get accepted to a Finnish Uni (next year dammit!) I do have a topic picked for a PhD. thesis. The real question is whether my idea is useful, or just a pipedream, I guess time will tell.
