Immigration causing gender imbalances in Norway. Approaching China.

First off, only Norwegian source on this, so will try to include everything relevant below.


According to statistics, we will soon have the same gender imbalance among younger generations as China.

Since the beginning of our records in 1769 up to 2010, Norway had slightly more women than men. This is the norm, because while slightly more boys are born, women have higher life expectancy both from age-related deaths and risk/work-related deaths in their life.

But in 2010, and every year since, men are outnumbering women and the gap is only growing larger. This discrepancy comes from the fact that the overwhelming majority of immigrants arriving are men. Overall 73% of applicant are men, to the 27% women. Among children traveling alone it's 91% boys to 9% girls.

Sweden is seeing the same trend, only they are further ahead. Among their youth, there's currently 13% more young men than young women. With the current immigration trend, they're only 4 months away from sharing Chinas ratio.

Side effects of this growing discrepancy is of course disputed, but sociologists point out that the obvious increased difficulty of finding a partner means more men will likely suffer from drug abuse, get into crime, and have worse physical and mental health. It has also been linked with a lower life expectancy. In other words, it's not desirable when people can't find anyone to partner with.

I'm not sure what I think should be done, but I think it might be worth considering certain quotas to get in roughly equal gender distributions.

The entire western world is having this problem. I could blame a large number of things for the underlying issue, but at the base, Men don't want to marry and have kids. So you end up with few newer generations of women because, statistically speaking, the chances of having a baby boy are higher.

Men not wanting kids would not in any way create a gender imbalance issue, only a population growth issue.

It is one of the factors in why Boys are more common than girls, one of them.

That's not why. Will quote from my OP:

If we removed immigration from the equation, we'd end up with slightly more women than men overall because they live longer.

Incentivize some female immigrants. Offer them equal pay and equal rights, lot better deal then they get in many other countries.

Quotas seem like they would work but you just aren't ever going to get enough female immigrants. So if you need to start taking say 60 women to every 40 men to stop the imbalances, what can you do if you only get 25 female applicants?

You can try to stop the immigration but good luck with that. Maybe you guys can get in on the wall building Trump's gonna do.

That's why you need to be careful about how much men you let in and go for a strictly balanced approach. They're just going going to end up in a life of crime and more likely to go to the extreme terrorist side with no resources sexually. Your better leaving them at the border. Somehow I doubt any of the countries are doing this or will.

In Norway maybe, but on average, throughout the western world, it is being caused by plummeting birth rates and boys being birthed more than girls.

Maybe its Europe then, I mean it isn't like there has been a massive, borderline uncontrolled, migrant population flooding in over the last year.

My point was, and is, that even without these migrants, these countries would still be losing younger women overtime.
