(US) Senate passes budget bill that defunds Planned Parenthood and repeals Obamacare.

    http://tinyurl.com/pxt4twe

Looked about to see if there was a thread on this already, didn't see one, decided to start one.

Anywho, as it says above, it seems like the GOP controlled Senate have managed to pass a bill to defund Planned Parenthood, with added provisions to nullify/repeal Obamacare. The reason it was able to pass this time (As opposed to the any number of times it has been tried) is because they're using a tool called 'Budget Reconciliation', which only requires 51 votes to pass instead of 60.

Though the bill is still likely to be veto'd by the president, this whole thing seems more or less symbolic anyway as it tells the GOP's voter base: "Hey, if we get a guy in charge, we can finally get rid of that pesky Obamacare!"

    Veto.

Don't have the votes to override.

Can anyone elaborate on what "that pesky Obamacare" is doing that needs to be stopped?

Insurance companies aren't allowed to sell BS policies that don't really cover anything anymore and thus they cost more.

According to LA Times, the number of the times they've voted to repeal it has now passed 60. Congress making good use of their taxpayed funded time...

I want Obama to sign it. Send Congress into a fucking chaos attempting to replace it. Eventually end up with Single Payer.

I would be ok with that if I was still younger and on my parents insurance, but if that happened I would probably lose my insurance D:

I am a crippled cancer survivor, so without Obamacare, insurance actuaries recoil in horror when they see me because I am the physical embodiment of a liability. They either wouldn't sell me insurance outright or would sell me some high deductible catastrophic insurance at an absurd rate.

My friend cant afford healthcare but doesn't qualify for assistance. He has to pay a fine now. I think that needs to be changed. Also a lot of people were forced to buy plans so they buy the cheapest one they can. It has sorta low premiums but the deductibles are through the roof. id like to see that changed too.

    Bullshit.

-Its a tax penalty not a fine.
-If it would cost more than 8% of his income he is exempt.
-If he is denied assistance he is exempt.

Yeah that is just a waste of time. Until the GOP gets a Republican President Obamacare is here to stay. Looking at how things are playing out in the primary we're going to have a Democrat in office for a long time.

A tax penalty is fine right? He is forced to pay money either way. It doesn't cost more than 8% of his income I believe. im pretty sure hes not denied assistance. I don't know his exact financial situation. it is my sisters fiancé

Lets say I want to risk not having insurance so I don't want to buy it and spend the money on something else. You can say im an idiot but a lot of people do idiotic things. Why am I forced to buy it? I think that's what the majority of people have a problem with. The government forcing them to buy a 3rd party product.

Because tomorrow you could be in a car accident, or break your leg, or get shot, or any number of things. And then a hospital has to treat you even if you can't pay. Meaning other people have to pay for you in the form of paying more for their own service. Because even non-profit hospitals cost a lot of fucking money to maintain.

Translation : Senate refuses to pass a budget.
It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion. It is by the beans of Java that thoughts acquire speed, the hands acquire shakes, the shakes become a warning.

But then I would be stuck with the bill right?
