A leader should act in a well-thought and reasoned (not just politically motivated but scientifically motivated) manner, even if the public majority disagrees. Realistically though, this doesn't happen too often because a) the leader is corrupt and failing to act properly or b) too unpopular with the people leading to their removal from power.

President doesn't have much power really, the only real power he has is vetoing laws passed by congress and congress can override his veto if they want. I guess he's the figurehead of country, getting all the blame and little of the credit.

Oh yeah, and the president has some effect on foreign affairs though they usually leave that to the career bureaucrats.

The majority of the People that vote have never read the Constitution, so should their opinion on what a POTUS is or isn't, is moot?

Past presidents seem to think their role is to be worldwide dictators.

What he thinks is right, that is what the Electoral College elected him to do. However, the Senate and House have proper checks in place and then of course the courts have final say. The President isnt "all powerful", he has to ask Congress for pretty much everything.
