The Last Nude Issue of Playboy Comes Out Today

Friday marks the final issue of Playboy containing images of naked women.

The magazine chose Pamela Anderson to be the last naked cover model, announcing on its website in early December: “To close out this era in the magazine’s history, it only made sense to put the most famous Playmate in Playboy history on the cover: Pamela Anderson.”

In October, the magazine announced that, after 62 years, it would stop publishing nude photos. “That battle has been fought and won,” Scott Flanders, Playboy’s CEO, told the New York Times about how the Internet contributed to the decision. “You’re now one click away from every sex act imaginable for free. And so it’s just passé at this juncture.”

It had no point, that is why they are trying to reinvent their brand as something else now.

Probably the same point as Stuff Magazine or GQ or Maxim.
'Twas a cutlass swipe or an ounce of lead
Or a yawing hole in a battered head
And the scuppers clogged with rotting red
And there they lay I damn me eyes
    All lookouts clapped on Paradise
All souls bound just contrarywise, yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!

I wonder how much will their sales drop.

Pam was a good choice. An icon from the Baywatch era.

They're probably trying to phase out the magazine anyway for online access, print journalism is expensive nowadays.

    So retro.

To be fair, not sure what Playboy is now.

Who even still reads / buys / subscribes (is that even still a thing?) / jerks off to Playboy?

Playboy was overtaken by much more hardcore magazines well before I was a teenager.

And then the internet came. Pun intended.

hopefully they will refocus on actual long format journalism again

playboy used to do really good long format stuff (still does, occasionally) and it would be nice to get more of that, instead of Maxim with nipples

I laughed at journalism used alongside Playboy

Print media is gradually becoming obsolete I feel. Wanking to a magazine generally isn't very pleasant.

That and their 'sex tips' try to make the most vanilla stuff seem raunchy. "If you want to spice up your sex life, try licking her/his nipples".

    Meh. GG Playboy.

Pictures of a nude body don't exactly do anything for me.

They have to be doing something and in motion.

Anyone else feel this is kinda cheap marketing trick, "Get the last nude issue of Playboy, collectors edition!" then next quarter "Oops we realised no one wanted Playboy without some nudes so we're reversing the decision"...

I was going to say the same thing. They genuinely do have some top notch journalists and interviewers on their staff. I was subscribed (for the pictures) from age 16-32 and I was surprised to find that the articles were very good. Still subbed for the pictures. It's artistic and beautiful, no good for fapping. That's what the internet is for. It was also a great place to see your favorite famous woman of the time. I remember vanna white, cindy crawford, denise richards... More recently Arrianne Celeste. I don't think you can find them naked in a porn, so Playboy had it's place and probably still does, but I understand their calculation.
I can teach you how to play, but I can't fix stupid.

No they are genuinely trying to reinvent their brand. There was a thread on on here a few months ago with their CEO or some other executive talking about how the magazine has operated at a loss for a very long time and served more as an advertisement for their website. He discussed how including porn in the magazine had become irrelevant because anyone could obtain any type of porn they desired instantly and for free on the internet and how it only served to detract from sales.
