Where does american prudeism come from?

Just out of curiosity, can someone explain the thought behind the way Americans go about sex, especially in relation to being "open" about it and regulations?

Words like fuck, penis, cunt, etc. arent allowed on TV
Parents get to regulate childrens sex lifes and claim statutory rape eventhough both parties consent
Having sex with a 17 year old as an 18 year old makes u a childrapist and gets you 20
Titties make stuff PG 18, but people getting their heads blown off is PG 12
    Prostitution isnt allowed
    The slightest nipple gets blurred
    etc. etc.

Im just curious how a country, that deems it fit for 16 year olds to drive cars and buy guns, can be so uptight about sex. Where does it come from? "sure you can have an AK47, and you can watch peoples heads getting shot off, but dont you dare touch that cunt without your parents consent!"

Its like all rationality goes straight out the window when Americans talk about sex. Why?

Since America invented the tv...it made sense at the time. Kinda like the constitution

I think you actually need to work in the other direction - why did Europe become much more open than traditional norms? The United States is probably somewhere in the ballpark of the world median when it comes to norms around sexuality, while Europe has become remarkably libertine.

With regard to a couple of your other specific questions, it's worth mentioning that a lot of what you said is just flatly inaccurate.

Well they have very puritan roots, and there's still a very large conservative/religious demographic that holds on to that.

I don't know if I'd call the aversion to swear word puritan though. It just differs in how much weight they carry.. Jokingly call someone a cunt some places and it can be laughed off, other places it carries a lot more significance and is therefor unacceptable.

The country was more or less kick started by puritans and that has just carried on for over 200 years.

Err I think your trolling because hyperboles ahoy!

Yeah parents can tell under age kids not to do, there isn't a special sex provision. Consenting age is 16 pretty much everywhere. None of them are buying ak47s, there is no pg12 or pg18, and prostitution not being allowed is hardly unique to the US.

So we're judging America by what can and can't be shown on TV, then?

Christianity turned sex into a sinful act, roughly around the time the Vikings discovered America and long before Columbus did the same. So there is you answer; religion (Christianity mostly) made sex a shameful thing, and since America claim to be “gods own country” but also has such a high profile on the (pop) cultural stage we tend to notice them more than others. And yes I find it weird as well when the naked body gets censored and the brutal killings of human beings in movies and on the news do not

    Oversimplification.

Personal preference gives way to society's preference which ultimately gives way to government regulation.

I see a few posters playing the old "blame Christianity" card but that's just being ignorantly dismissive.

While they might not care if their children, or children in general, are exposed to sex they don't get to make that decisions for other peoples children.

    So we compromise.

This. The threads still run strong through America.

It's not just Europe, though. Go to Mexico and their soap operas are basically soft porn. Same goes with South America.

No. We are all mostly freaky bastards. We just act like we are prudes cause that is socially the thing to do. Like porn. No one watches it yet it's a billion dollar industry.

Except this forum does a stellar job about it.

    Examples:
-all cops are racists out to kill everybody who isn't white.
    -americans didn't invent any food.
-all americans are ok with a corrupt court system.
-all americans are fat and lazy

This is just from a few pages of the off topic forums.

Whats more amusing is the fact an 18 year old in the United States can buy a semi-automatic assault rifle with no checks of any kind, but cant have a Kinder-Egg because they 'aren't safe".

Add to the fact America was primarily founded and settled by the Puritans (the people so uptight and dickish, even the British told them to get the fuck out), its surprising they have the amount of tolerance they have

yes lets just ignore how ingrained purtian doctrine was/is in american society because you think it reflects badly for some wierd reason.
