    [Movie] Star Wars: Rogue One

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is an upcoming live-action Star Wars film, the first in the Star Wars Anthology Series. The film is set for release on December 16, 2016, and will be directed by Gareth Edwards. Gary Whitta worked on the script throughout 2014, and Chris Weitz took over final scripting duties in 2015. Felicity Jones is the first confirmed star of the film.

The film, which began production in August 2015, is set between the films Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. The plot revolves around a band of resistance fighters uniting to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Galactic Empire's planet-destroying battle station.

Episode VII may have been delayed, but #RogueOne hits cinemas this December! #stayontarget

The crew, read somewhere there will be lots of Aliens in the movie, so not everyone in the crew will be human I guess??

    a bunch of info

Will include Darth Vader, he'll probably go full "die, rebel scum!"

hoping for some good action...or this movie will be toast..

So far, nobody from Star Wars: Rebels has died, Ahsoka whereabout is unknown, canon she hasn't died. Could one of them show up?
in star wars: clone wars we saw an older Ahsoka, older than the one now in Star Wars: Rebels..

    She'll live?

Come on...a whole Star Wars movie with no single light saber fight, is no Star Wars movie..

This Rogue One movie could be a present to all the Clone Wars & Rebels fans out there..

Star Wars: Rogue One virtually finished, Disney 'absolutely love' what they've seen

Disney CEO Bob Iger has enthused about the first of the franchise's spin-off 'Star Wars Anthology' series.

The Force Awakens relaunched Star Wars to resounding success; leaving all eyes on its successor to see whether Disney can maintain that momentum throughout their exhaustively planned schedule of films.

Speaking to investors during The Walt Disney Co.'s quarterly earnings call, CEO Bob Iger stated; "Filming of Rogue One is virtually completed and we absolutely love what we’ve seen so far. This is the first of a set of planned stand-alone stories and we’re already in preproduction on our next one, for release in May of 2018."

The referenced film is the upcoming 'young Han Solo' movie; directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller (22 Jump Street, The Lego Movie) were last heard to be in the process of casting the film's lead, with the shortlist whittled down to eight potential hirees. There's yet to be any official announcement on that front, though it was rumoured the character would somehow be integrated into Rogue One; though the fact the film is supposedly set right before A New Hope makes its veracity a little hard to believe.

Rogue One follows a wayward band of Rebel fighters brought together for one improbable mission: steal the plans for the Death Star. These events, of course, directly link into the first scenes of A New Hope; when Princess Leia is seen concealing the plans in R2-D2 before she's captured by the Galactic Empire

The CEO also took the opportunity to officially announce cameras have rolled on Rian Johnson's Star Wars: Episode VIII, delayed from its initial January start date, mirroring the film's release date being shifted from May to December 2017.

Iger certainly had plenty to celebrate, with The Force Awakens becoming the third film in history to pass the $2BN mark and the only to earn more than $900M domestically. Furthermore, the franchise had managed to earn more than $3BN globally in consumer products.

I'm hyped to see Vader in action, unmatched and shredding rebel scum like droid fodder.

Also, Boba Fett almost HAS to be in this movie. Perhaps we can see why Vader later warns him, "I want them alive. No disintegrations."

I doubt we'll see Ahsoka in a live movie.

I hope they leave Boba Fett out, he has been a crap character in every single movie, show and game he has appeared in.

I feel like this statement should be infracted.

At the start of Ep 4, the scroll text states the Rebels have just won their first battle against the Empire, and in the chaos, stole the plans to the Death Star. This is that story.

I don't really follow Star Wars, but nice to see Donnie Yen making an appearance over here in what will presumably be a blockbuster...

Wow, I must have been out of the loop if I didn't know that this was a thing. I thought we were just going to get the new trilogy (VII through IX), but a movie concerning events eluded to from the start of ANH but never expanded on? Neat.

Yeah, they're doing a whole bunch of one-off stories inbetween the trilogy movies. Believe they're starting production on a Han Solo origin movie soon. And maybe a Boba Fett movie? Or is that this one?

Yes. It's being "premiered" on Good Morning America (since ABC = Disney) but I expect it on the Interwebz by 10.
You're not allowed to discuss conspiracy theories on mmo-champion, which makes me wonder what they're trying to hide.
