    [TV] The X-Files

Season 10, or rather the 2016 miniseries has just aired it's first episode. I searched for a thread on the actual series itself, and didn't find one, so here's a proper discussion thread for the entire series, since there might be renewed interest in it after this new miniseries. There's an earlier discussion thread about this "revival" miniseries here, as well as a thread about people's favorite (original series) The X-Files episodes here. Neither cover the entire span of the series, though, including the two movies, so this thread can work as a nexus point for all things concerning The X-Files.

Here's the trailer for the miniseries:

    Here's another snippet:

Here's a longer taste of the upcoming miniseries, although it most likely contains spoilers, so watch at your own peril:

I have no clue as to why Kotaku had to shit on the first episode, but then again, that's what Gawker Media does; they shit on things that do not deserve it. I for one thought it was a brilliant start for this miniseries.

Scully is so - much - hotter now than she ever was.

I think the new season has perfectly captured that X-Files feel even after all these years of being away.
I thought the plot was kinda dumb, but the characters acted exactly like I feel they would in the present setting. Joel McHale also was pretty spot on as an Alex Jones-ish guy.
Excited for the rest of the miniseries, I already foresee this being the weakest episode by far.
I also do not for a second doubt Kotaku bashed this

Overall, the first episode felt very similar to the older show and had the X-Files "feel" that I expected. I was pleased.
They cut out my favorite part of the intro though, the guy flinging his arms back and falling into the fingerprint. I was very sad it was missing

I'd have to disagree there. I mean, and spoilers follow, so please whoever quotes me, quote the spoiler tags as well, and use your own...

They dove head first in the deep end of the alien stuff, and basically admitted the existence of aliens from the get-go, which is something they had been skirting around for so long; showing aliens and alien craft, then trying to explain it away. Also, a conspiracy orchestrated by small group of elite douchebags makes much more sense than governments conspiring with aliens. This way, basically the aliens are shown to be the victims, and benevolent, and not like some party in some illogical alliance with human governments.

Mulder and Scully felt like Mulder and Scully, and McHale was, for once, properly in a believable role.

I'm very mixed on the first episode, I'm excited that it's back but I felt like they were just phoning the performances in. The actors age is a bit jarring to me but understandable given how much time has passed. I'm looking forward to how the next 5 episodes play out, I'm hoping I really end up liking it like the 24 mini series and not being "meh" like I was with Heroes Reborn.

I read somewhere that she loathed the hairstyle she had back then and I believe she's wearing a wig now, so maybe that's why they didn't go back to her original hair look.

I can't believe that is a wig. Extensions maybe? I don't know. Can't possibly be a wig, though, can it? Not really an expert on women's hair, so whatever. She did look hot in red hair, but then again, she looked even hotter as a complete blonde on Hannibal. There she definitely had extensions.

Anyways, 13.5 million viewers for the first episode. Shows the passion of the fans, at least. That'll bring a lot of disappointed fans obviously, since people have their own expectations on what it should be, and so on. For someone who watched the series back in the early 90s though, and even through the pretty disappointing episodes with the T-1000 instead of Mulder, it was just pure joy seeing Mulder and Scully together again, and not in some feature film.

Liking this a whole lot more than the last film and am feeling antsy for the next episode.

Love the sets, spacecraft designs, and the alien! Gave me chills. It's great to see the crew working to build the world around the actors are doing such a superb job.

Everything about it was awful. The acting, the same old dialouge, same fucking ufo over a car shot. It's played out. If they ever want to bring it back they need to get rid of Chris Carter, David D, and Jillian Anderson. I was really excited when it was announced that it was coming back, but it sucked. No mystery, no intrigue, no nothing.

So everything that was good about the series now sucks!

I used to love the x-files. Did you watch it? Did you think it was good? I think with different writers, maybe a damon lindelof and carlton cuse the show could be great again, but not with these writers and these actors.

As a fan of the series so many years ago, I found it was a clichéd filled 45 mins with poor effects, predictable episode story and "surprise guest" at the end.

I loved it! cant wait for the next episode.

After the way they ultimately bungled Lost, I'd prefer those two no where near the X-Files.

I liked this, never watched the old X-files. Especially considering it talks about stuff that is happening in RL with surveillance, etc in America/other countries (minus the alien tech being used...well tbh, it could be true but who knows). Well, if you believe the (conspiracy) theories that is.

I'm not sure any of the people complaining about this first episode even watched the old X-Files over 20 years ago, or don't remember it at all, because this was pretty much exactly the way those episodes where back then.

Here's some stuff Chris Carter said about the first episode, some spoilers in the link so beware:

X-Files was one of the few shows when I was younger that I made time especially for it. Glad to see it back and it was all the same goodness from the old days.
