    Question Next American Civil War

I wonder if income inequality and joblessness will get bad enough in the US that another civil war breaks out? With corporations and the super wealthy have such a death hold on government and officials civil war may turn out to be the only thing that can change it.

Quite honestly, sometimes I think about voting republican just to increase income inequality faster in order to spark a civil war faster. I feel like I have been oppressed and held down by the super wealthy and corporations my entire life and I want their blood over it.

How else do you expect to solve the problems that lie before us? We can't use democracy because it is being held hostage by the people with wealth and power.

Anything's possible I guess. Keep in mind that our rapidly advancing technology IS going to kill millions of jobs at some point, war or not, unless the war sets us back decades somehow.

Wont happen. The citizens are a hell of a lot less armed than the government.

I have a better idea, if you don't like it here, leave, there are plenty of other countries you can live in that will fit your ideals for "income equality", so go live in one of them.
A gun is like a parachute. If you need one, and don’t have one, you’ll probably never need one again.

Keeping it simple, corporations aren't the only issue, it is also the governments which allow them to create monopolies and keep smaller businesses from getting big. So it is a corporation and government buddy-ship which is the issue. Voting Republican or Democrat will give us the same result. (how edgy!)

Keeping it less simple, a war is inevitable, but I don't think it would be a war with borders like in 1861. With new calls to add additional parties, mass media and free information, it is hard to know who is your ally or enemy, in a sense. To be succinct, if a war happened it would be a massive guerrilla war of information and propaganda, maybe some death, relatively speaking. But look at post-American Civil War. A lot of people thought a second war was going to come less than a decade afterwards because there was still so much resistance. Thinking of when a civil war will happen is pretty silly. But if one did happen, I can understand the reasons.

Maybe less armed, but the people out number the government by far.

There will be no second civil war in America. Period. Do you people not understand how overwhelmingly powerful the US military is compared to it's citizens? The two are not even comparable in terms of strength, let alone numbers.

Not to mention that life in America is far, far from being in a horrible enough state to warrant A civil war. You really think enough people are going to throw away the quality of life the majority of us enjoy, to begin a long and horribly bloody civil war in which many people will die?

I guess a civil war is possible. Get a lot of guns and ammo and be ready to create new nation or city states that control resources like arable land, water, fertilizer, minerals, etc.

Nah. People are dumb. All the which have to do to quell the peasant uprising is to blame the problems of the poor on the Irish blacks Chinese jews Mexicans Muslims. Poor people are distracted, the rich get richer.

Also the entire premise is flawed. No one is going to war income inequality and joblessness unless all political resources have been exhausted. We're not even close to that point.

The military may split. Half in favor of the people and half in favor of the government. Or military personnel may just choose not to kill its own citizens.

It doesn't work like that. Only someone ignorant of both the difficulties faced by immigrants/emigrants, and the problems of the poor would say something so foolish. If everyone like you simply ceased to exist, I think the problem would solve itself.

Understand that, and make no mistake; you are personally part of the problem.

Impossible. What you raid is not what you get. Please stop to underestimate capitalism.
What are you fighting for? Certainly not what you are able to get as just American.

Considering many of the serving members of the military come from families that have every right to rise up against their government, I would say the split would be far less balanced. The majority would probably side with the people.

Yeah I'm not American and depending on who you choose to listen to American soldiers will just follow orders; but what if the people giving the orders are on the "side" of the populace.

I mean haven't combat veterans been getting a raw deal in the U.S. for generations now?

(P.S. I don't think it will happen if any signs point to it changes would be made as it would simply cost too much to let a civil war happen)

Sure, the military might have more guns, but they're still people.

Do you honestly think the American military will take cheap shots, and murder American citizens without having emotional backlashes of their own?

It's one thing to blindly follow a government when you're murdering foreign people in a foreign land, but a wholly other thing when those same military personnel are asked to kill their friends, neighbors, lovers, and family.

    You won't solve them.

Have a read of Manna for an extrapolation of the current path of the USA.

So you take the Chinese strategy and send the California troops to shoot in the mid-west, and vice versa.

If a civil war were to break out, there is no telling when it would end. It could last a long time which would be awful for everyone except the super rich. They would continue to go on doing what they have always done. For working class people and poor people it would be horrendous. Food production would not be as good. You would have to worry about being killed just walking down the street. The economy would tank really bad for middle class and poor people.

Personally I would prefer that the southern states or any other conservative states broke away and former there own country. They wouldn't be worth fighting over to keep in my opinion. They wont secede though because those states take in more federal money than they produce in tax money. I would hope those states would secede, take all the conservative religious politicians and thinkers with them.

The problem with this is that these states would probably start world war 3 in the middle east or with Russia destroying life for everyone on the planet. They would also pollute like crazy and have a very negative effect on the environment.
