laptop put into sleep mode when closed

my laptop enters sleep mode when i close it for just a while. it bothers me cuz my net gets turned off and i get dc'd from a game.
i just want to be able to literally close it and nothing beside it, no sleep mode or anything. i need to sometimes hide it while at work.

using windows 8.1
is it possible to do ??

Go to the Control Panel -> System and Security -> Power Options.
You should see a menu to the left, something in the terms of "Control what happens when..".
If this doesn't help, you should be able to completely deactivate automatic sleep if you just click "Change" to the right on your current profile.
