1. If we find them first, they will have inferior tech. And we gain relatively nothing from them.
2. If they find us first, they will do so for 2 reasons:

2. Kolonialisation. They need our resources. They wipe us out.

The trouble with making such broad, sweeping statements is that we really have absolutely no idea what their motivations would be. Assuming there are really only two choices is putting constraints on something that is not understood.

Scenario A

If they were only near-future more advance than us and it was only like shuttle worth of them, may God help those souls of those poor little aliens. Even if we don't do grievous harm to them they would know no peace due to being bombarded with numerous studies and interrogation.

There would be intergalatic hippies, I think the internet would call the Space SJWs, that would come up with all sorts of talking points about the humane treatment of alien.

The conspiracy theories would be ripe for the picking, so juicy.

The US would find a way to own the aliens and Russia would complain about it.

Scenario B

The aliens are immeasurably more advanced than us and we basically at their mercy. The route in which events unfold would be completly up to them but world leaders/society in general would theorize ways coexist with the aliens. Either they are hostile and we must figure out a way to survive/make ourselves not worth the effort because there would no way we'd win if they just wanted to annihilate us. Or we would have to try hard to get them to sort of feel sorry us, perhaps uplift us, instead of exploiting us for labor, amusement, studies. You know, how we treat animals and indigenous people.

You're thinking in terms of a human though. There's no telling what reason they have to explore the stars. Maybe they come from a world that isn't divided by boundaries or ideologies. And though humans have a fetish for anal probes, you don't need to cut things open to study them. Hell it's possible that were being watched right now and they're wisely staying away from us because of how primitive we are. I mean a good majority of humanity still believes there's a boogey man in the sky watching us masturbate...

Also, you would think any species smart enough to master inter galactic travel would figure out how to be self sufficient first and not rely conquering some random worlds/star systems that they happen to come across, for resources.

Just because we're stupid, sadistic, selfish, destructive, greedy pieces of shit, does not mean everything out there has to be the same way.

I'm think they've already come to Earth. Whether or not we've made contact, I don't know, but I think the Government is already aware of their visits.

Eh. I like conspiracy theories/shows like the X-Files, but I don't think there's any evidence of this...I think it's more likely that we've had advanced aircraft technology that has been kept under wraps for awhile, that has been mistaken for...other things...
