I don't think I've ever seen someone that's pro circumcision without being circumcised himself or raised in an environment where it's considered normal, such as the US.

Whether the cons and pros are real or not, it's an invasive surgery that has permanent effects and can have dire circumstances ( again, over 100 die due to it each year in the US ). As such it should only be done with the consent of the person. Not the parents.

Was going to post, but this is pretty much how I feel.

Otherwise - no. We're at the point in society that cleanliness isn't really an issue (might have been in ye olden days when we didn't bathe as much and circumcision might have helped). Anyone arguing "it's cleaner!" is not only wrong, but it's such a BS argument even if it were moderately true. We know how to clean our bodies and why it's important to get the bits all nice and clean. FFS you learn how to clean an uncut penis in sex ed class - don't see the huge concern.

As an adult though if someone wants it done for cosmetic reasons they should have the ability to go through with it - but having a child go through it without consent is just cruel.

My personal opinion is that it should be allowed as a choice for adults who want it. I'm fine with not allowing it on babies, but I am circumcised and if I had the choice as an adult I would do it again due to cultural preference and me enjoying sex without worrying about my partners finding it gross.

There are conditions where circumcision is medically necessary. An outright ban is extreme. Now, a ban on non-medical infant circumcision I can see.

Just attach a age limit to it as to when it can be performed for non-medical reasons.

It seems just a little odd that you tell me to "educate myself" by linking a medical website. When I query "male circumcision" I get an overwhelming amount of evidence that circumcisions can have negative consequences. By using your very source, it seems that you are very wrong. If nothing else, it seems that you were cherry picking results to fit your conclusion. It's like choosing the 3 published papers in opposition to climate change and ignoring the 97 which say it is a serious issue. If you want to be science literate, you need to look for evidence against your claim, not just things confirming it.

And no, circumcision is not the end of the world. It has been going on for literally thousands of years and we're still around. But the primary purpose of it has always been to physically mark somebody as a member of your particular social group; It's the same as tattoos, piercings, scarification, and a host of other things. And just like those other things, it was also traditionally a rite of passage. I have no qualms about an adult deciding how to modify their body, but a procedure like this is not something that should be done to children.

The meatus becomes more and more dry and less sensible as the years go by, due to always being in contact with the underwear. Since the forskin isn't there to moisture the tissue, it eventually becomes keratinised.

Not to mention the massive loss of nerves and blood veins.

I definitely don't see what you're referring to, even after a google image search. The only thing remotely close as extremely accidents that happen which are apparently a chance that is very very rare. So no, your imaginary stance doesn't hold true.

From what I can find preputioplasty has a small incidence of reoccurence of phimosis afterwards. Otherwise, it's still a shortening of the foreskin as a natural consequence of the procedure.
