Chicago raises smoking ageo to 21.

CHICAGO — The City Council voted Tuesday to raise Chicago’s smoking age from 18 to 21.

Cities such as New York, Boston, Cleveland, Kansas City and Evanston already have similar ordinances in place.

The aldermen also outlawed discounts, slapped a $6 million tax on tobacco products and banned chew altogether at professional and amateur sporting events, including baseball stadiums.

Chicago is now fourth big league city with a smokeless tobacco ban, joining San Francisco, Boston and Los Angeles.

New York and Toronto have legislation pending.
So, what do you think of this? Good or bad? Do you think others will follow suit?

Honestly, I think its a dumb idea. I don't really like smokers too much in public areas, but this law has no authority or real power since they can just go somewhere else and purchase them.

That's about all that needs to be said in this thread. Chicagoans are smoking by age 9.

Stupid law. Won't work. People who are 18-20 are gonna find ways to smoke anyway. They'll have their older friends buy them. They'll bum cigarettes. This is all a response to vaping and it's sad.

How many times do we have to go down this? Prohibition did not work. The war on drugs did not work. Stop it.

If they're legal adults then there's no reason to restrict them.

Classical liberalism was unfortunately booted out of the political arena some time ago.

I mean it's already illegal for minors to smoke, but drive by any high school and you'll see a bunch of 16 year olds out there puffing away.

    Damn I was too late.

But yeah, not even sure why they wasted time to pass the measure.

In other news, Chicago extends voting eligibility to 25 years past death.

Chicago laws are hardly ever followed, as seen by their amazing lack of shootings and crime rate.
