The RED SCARE in America was the dumbest thing.

Seriously though, the whole ordeal is just silly when you think about. People were afraid of the big bad Communists. So afraid that they were hunted down, hunted down for a political ideology.

Now we have people today that can't really get out of that mindset and just believe what the government sells as propaganda pieces. It was a time where our country was ran through fear and that fear was enough to make people lose their minds at the word "communism."

Communism is a flawed system but then again every system is flawed in some way. I just felt like sharing. Tell me how you guys feel, all opinions welcome.

Julius Rosenberg (May 12, 1918 – June 19, 1953) and Ethel Greenglass Rosenberg (September 28, 1915 – June 19, 1953) were American citizens who spied for the Soviet Union and were executed for conspiracy to commit espionage, and passing information about the atomic bomb to the Soviets.

Well the fear was rather justified given two diametrically opposed governments were at each other's throats for forty years, each with the capability of devastating the surface of our world several times.

The worst part about the Red Scare is people think it's still on-going and that any slightly socialist policy will turn us into the United Soviet States of America.

Not nearly as dumb as the brown scare currently sweeping the nation.
There are no worse scum in this world than fascists, rebels and political hypocrites.
Donald Trump is only like Hitler because of the fact he's losing this war on all fronts.
Apparently condemning a fascist ideology is the same as being fascist. And who the fuck are you to say I can't be fascist against fascist ideologies?
If merit was the only dividing factor in the human race, then everyone on Earth would be pretty damn equal.

Most of that comes from the left supporting the Vietcong during the Vietnam war, many saw it as treasonous.

Communism was spreading at an alarming rate and when a nation became communistic it was always a violent bloody affair. People had good reason to be afraid and it wasn't just the US who feared what Communism could bring.

The Venona Papers more or less vindicated McCarthy. Try and find a conspiracy that's actually unfounded, next time.

I dunno, Red Dawn is a pretty hilarious movie.

And if they hadn't, the US might've actually used their nukes. Thanks, MAD!

I saw that about 5 years ago, the old one, and I still want my hour and a half or so back.

I don't know how anyone can write such a thing after so many millions of people literally died because of communism in China and Russia, plus the oppression in other countries that wanted freedom such as Hungary.

The Russians actually came closest to starting it off. Vasili Arkhipov refused orders to fire a nuclear missile during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

There was another one, wasn't there? Where the Russian dude was ordered to fire a missile because the radar caught something, but he had his doubts because the US wouldn't launch only one missile, so he disobeyed his order . . . and it turned out to be some anomaly.

Oh yeah forgot about that one.

Only someone without any understanding of what communism was and what times it was would call it "dumb".

That guy is a fucking hero. Seriously, he's probably solely responsible for preventing World War 3, or at the very least the near annihilation of the United States, Russia, and all surrounding nations.

    His name was Stanislav Petrov.

Fun fact: he was punished for this afterwards, for disobeying instructions. Soviet Russia in nutshell.

Communism in Russia killed more of its people than any Government in the past, through executions and starvation especially. Stalin really has a FAR higher kill count than Hitler. On that topic, the next closest thing being Socialism in Germany (the Nazi Party) setting off a war and killing tons of its own people, there were plenty of reasons to be scared of socialism and communism, not to mention they had set off the largest war with the most deaths ever seen, far more people died in combat in the World Wars than Hitler killed in the Holocaust, but you don't get alot of soldier empathy from that era for the young men that got drafted. You basically saw an entire generation of young men decimated across the planet.

Really the scariest part is how many of its own citizens Communism had to kill. People who were/are avowed Communists really should be shunned for their beliefs, because while you might allow them to disagree with you in a somewhat Capitalist system, if they get in charge they will not give you the opportunity to disagree with them.

Why? They think people don't have different opinions on who to support?
