4-year-old girl beheaded in Taiwan knife attack

(CNN)A 4-year-old girl was beheaded in Taiwan in what appears to have been a random knife attack, state media said.

On Monday morning, a 33-year-old man attacked the girl with a cleaver in full view of her mother as they were on their way to a metro station in Taipei, the island's capital, the official Central News Agency, or CNA, said.
The mother of the slain child said her daughter had been riding her bike about a meter away from her when it became stuck.
She saw the man approaching and at first thought he was going to help her daughter but he drew his knife and decapitated her.

I noted the murderer has a history of mental illness. I'll probably get flack for saying this, but despite that fact, I feel he absolutely needs to be executed and preferably in a public fashion to send a message. There comes a point where some people are simply too sick in the head to be allowed a chance to rehabilitate. Beheading a 4 year old is one of those things.

Because of course we all know that people with a tenuous grip on reality if any at all will be put off seeing someone executed. That is if they actually watch it or whatever.
What are we gonna do now? Taking off his turban, they said, is this man a Jew?
'Cause they're working for the clampdown

It's easy to discuss what should be done afterwards in hindsight. It's not even the lowest hanging fruit of discussion in something like this. It's a fruit that was laying on the ground, was promptly eaten by an animal, and has since been shat back out.

As far as preventing tragedies like this in the future, "harsh justice" has been statistically shown to be bullshit. The highest crime rates are in countries with harsh approaches to justice. It doesn't "send a message". There's hundreds of years of data in multiple countries to show just how steamy a pile of bullshit the concept is.

There's literally no name yet for that high a tier of ignorance. If there was a god of ignorance, he would be weeping, alone, and forsaken on the god tier of ignorance at such a thing.

Who is collecting that data from multiple countries? Liberals? Keep in mind, there been a recent report majority of the psychology and sociology studies were ireplicable due to fudge data. Not to mention, countries with harsh justice do not have plea bargain, something that is not a choice in western nations, where rule of law more or less applied. You can murder trillion people, someone in the west would be offered plea bargain for maybe manslughter. Fudging the numbers again

That sounds like some kind of paranoid conspiracy theory of mythic proportions.

That has never, statistically, prevented crime. Public executions do nothing. People committing crimes don't care about the consequences in the first place or they feel they can never be apprehended, or, they don't even think there are consequences. Many of the most mentally-ill criminals believe themselves to be above the law and punishment.

not a conspiracy theory. I will look for the article about studies being irreplicable. It was here actually. The plea bargain thing however is absolutely true, since the harsh justice countries like say the developing world don't have plea bargain. They don't need to. In the west, there is limitation on how evidence be collected, in developing world we do not have that. So, plea bargain exists in the west.

Send a message to other mentally ill people to keep their mind together? Don't you think if they could they wouldn't be called mentally ill?
The murderer should take medical treatment and be kept in till he is safe for the society. Then face his trial.

I would be interested to hear more about his psychiatric condition. According to another article that I'll post it says he was hospitalized but doesn't have a disability. Looks like he was hospitalized for drugs according to the other article.

The hospital confirmed that the suspect had sought treatment there once in 2014, but added that it does not prove he has a mental illness. At the time, the man admitted to taking drugs, but a drug test came up negative, the hospital said.

they believe themselves to be above the law because they are. They need to reminded that they are not through public execution. The only thing that works for psychopatic people are the fear for their own lives. Nothing else even remotely work.

IMHO punishment should be as harsh as necessary to deter the crime.

However in this case, since the guy is plain nuts, it doesn't apply. There is probably no cure, FFS we can't even cure depression, life imprisonment in a mental asylum is probably the best course of action.
Internet forums are more for circlejerking (patting each other on the back) than actual discussion (exchange and analysis of information and points of view). Took me long enough to realise ...

That doesn't actually work, at all. Check the toughest laws in the toughest countries and those countries will NOT have lower crime rates than the rest of the world.

why? Genuinely though. He is useless part of society. He can always not take his medication Again? why do we need to take a chance again? Mentally ill people are always risky, especially in society not geared toward taking care of them. Sometimes, meds just stop working due to tolerance being built up. Thats when, you need to up the dosage. They ALL should be instituionalized if they have something like schizo.

Your entire argument rest on the premise that psychopaths are rational. Which they aren't. Because if they were, they wouldn't be psychopaths.

Except that the US has the death penalty still, and it has a much higher crime rate in Japan. So you picked the best data point. Because the existence of any high crime countries with capital punishment effectively and logically show that Japan's low crime rate has fuck all to do with the death penalty, which is only applicable to multiple homicides anyway.
