Frustrating bosses you've faced in your lifetime of playing video games

These can be bosses from any genre but I am just curious which bosses had you nearly throw the controller/keyboard against the wall.

To start with, I will give you:

    It's a great theme, but the boss......AAAAARGGGGGHHHHH!!!!

Final boss of dark souls 3. Took me 4 hours but I did it. You are all in for a treat since it has my vote for best boss in the series.

From my old school WoW: Gorefiend in The Black Temple with people who can't do the minigame. There's no raid hate quite like that raid hate. And the frustration there is other people.

Edit: solo boss? Have to say Smough and Ornstein in Dark Souls.

Never. I am not that emotional if i lose a fight against a game boss.

The orange blob boss in Mega Man, until I learned the pause trick. Probably others but that's the one that sticks in my mind the most.

I can say that while I've gotten PO-ed by a game or boss, I've never thrown a controller, probably because I saw my friend do it with his NES Advantage, which cost a pretty penny back in the day and ended up broken.

Beat it in 4 tries, an optional boss before him is a million times harder.

Also never really tbh, bosses don't frustrate me. Poorly designed games frustrate me, but a well designed hard boss is not going to frustrate me.

Probably the boss in the Jaws of Hakkon DLC for Dragon Age Inquisition.

Mostly because that boss and most enemies in general from that DLC have mechanics that bypass all shields and barriers and one shot you, some of which are unavoidable or very difficult to avoid.

At least on the nightmare difficulty with a lot of trials enabled...

    That zone was such bullshit.

I get why they did it. They needed to up the difficulty, since not even Nightmare mode required manual party control in the late main game. But at the same time it felt so bloody cheap while doing so. You have this mechanic meant to replace healing spells through absorbing damage, and then you add mechanics that can ignore those absorbs and almost oneshot tank characters through it.

Its not impossible, just flawed difficulty design like it was an afterthought bolted onto existing systems, rather than intended from the outset due to how heavy the players guard generation can become with late game builds/gear.

Not bosses in particulary, more specific 'segments' of games.

The final dungeon in Zelda 2: Adventure of Link.

The hardest difficulty of the story mode in F-Zero GX, beat it, but with loads of patience!

I honestly can't really remember any difficult bosses. Mimiron HM maybe at the time when it was relevant? :P

Oh wait, I do now. Ridley in the first Metroid Prime on hardest difficulty. Required perfect play, loved it though!

Fume Knight - DS2. Damn that guy. He's a good enemy though. Challenging but fun.

Final Fantasy XI - Absolute Virtue. Dafuq, seriously.

Dark Aeons in FFX, the frustration was real.

Vega in Street Fighter Zero 3 Career/leveling mode. I hated the guy with a passion.

Celosia & Cenobia from Shadow of the Colossus. Their the two smallest colossi, only being about the size of a van, but damn they are by and far the absolute most difficult colossi to defeat; assuming you don't get trampled to death or gored into a wall, it's pretty much playing rodeo except that you not only need to spend your strength hanging (and constantly having to readjust your grip - take my word for it, it's atrocious) but also exert strength to kill it. Cenobia is the most heinous offender; you must spend a good three-four minutes knocking down pillars to get into position before you can even start the rodeo... each time you wipe. Yeah, that means an attempt can take as long as up to five minutes before you can even get to part where you can actually fail...

On that note, I never got past Maester Seymour, first battle. Still haven't, might come back and try again but the health pools of the adds are too high to down quickly enough.

FFXII: The shade boss in the passage into Old Archades. Never defeated him until my fourth playthrough of the game.

Never been really angry when fighting bosses, but some were really-really annoying. Just a few examples.

Ancient Rock Wraith from Dragon Age 2
Pre-patch 1.02 (or whichever reduced bosses' HP significantly), it was such a pain. The HP pool is enormous, the fight takes like 20 minutes, and that is 20 minutes of constant pausing and giving commands to all 4 companions. Small mistake - and you might have to start it all over again.

    Draug from Witcher 2
Aside from enormous HP pool and very frustrating siege weapon mechanics, I also had an extreme lag throughout the fight: my FPS would be around 10, and it was very hard to dodge his attacks - I had to restart the fight 5 times or so before I got it right.

    Harvester from Dragon Age: Origins
Might be the hardest boss I've ever fought in a video game, among those I've defeated. I won't even try to estimate how many times I had to restart that fight the first time I played.

Mephistopheles from Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark
Such a cheesy fight... Know D&D very well, know what you are going to face and prepare your build/items accordingly - and the fight is a piece of cake. Otherwise - prepare for one of the most frustrating dances with the RNG god.

Yelena from Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Special place in hell is reserved for people designing fights like this.

Emerald Weapon is the Final Fantasy boss I've never beaten.

    It haunts me.

Bison in Street Fighter Alpha 3's hardest difficulty. I uh...will neither confirm nor deny that I destroyed a controller over that one.

edit: You know what else? The last boss in fucking Golden Axe.

He didn't actually seem hard to me; just jump-bash him to death, he won't be able to do anything against that.

The two knights right before him though...

The final boss of Metroid prime on gamecube... dunno if i would have the same trouble with it nowdays but back when i was younger this guy got to me big time haha.

Ninja Gaiden Nes's final bosses. First one is easy, other 2 just crap all over you and you get barely any time to learn it. And if you die you have to start all the way back at 6-1.

Kanrethad Ebonlocke when it was current for the Warlock green fire quest chain in WoW.

The four fiends boss in FF4 (2 US) where you fight all 4 of the elemental fiends back to back gave me a lot of trouble for a long time.

Maat in FFXI on Dark Knight

Final boss of Resident Evil: Code Veronica...not because the boss was hard but because the first time I played through the game I dumped all my weapons into the footlocker so I could hand them over to the character I thought was going to be going into the final boss...only to end up at the last boss 2 minutes later with nothing but the shitty handgun, 5 bullets and a fucking typewriter ink roll... Had to replay the entire game to actually end up beating it.

FFXIV Titan Hard when it was current
