I think it depends. There are a lot of adult orientated video games and anime on the market.

In my personal opinion if you are a grown adult and still like playing Pokemon and watching Sailor Moon and My Little Pony, yea there may be some crossed-wires occurring.

Lolicon is just for degenerates period.

Or so you know... As you say, its stigmatized... Unless they are stupid, I doubt people would run around telling everyone about their highly frowned upon hobby unless they were intentionally trying to sabotage their own livelihood...

Clearly a large number of people must watch it over there since they keep making it... It doesn't cost much to make a magazine, but to make an animated show or movie, that is a pretty steep investment.. .They wouldn't do it if they weren't making a lot of money.

I don't watch any Japanese shows, but every single person I have ever met in the US that does, they pirate those shows... So they can't be making much money from the US... /anecdote

It's why I've stopped playing LoL and try to deny my extensive relationship with animation. Like I'll never admit to liking Zootopia for a recent example.
The only thing embarrassing is the question.

Anime has always puzzled me, I'm not quite sure how watching a genre of animation has become a hobby. No one ever lists watching crimes dramas or reality television as hobbies... (Maybe some do who knows). Collecting anime memorabilia and building scale models, seems a little too in-depth to me, but then again I'd say fandom of that magnitude for any television show would be just as cringe-worthy.

As for League of Legends, if you're embarrassed to be playing LoL at 21 maybe video games aren't for you. I'm not sure who judges you on this matter, personally I'd rather play a game than vegetate in front of the TV, or go fishing, but that's just me. Video games are meant to be a source of enjoyment. If you're too worried what your friends might think because they all think NASCAR or whatever is cooler, either you need new friends, so you can actually enjoy something you like to do, or you need to find a new hobby that you aren't afraid to actually do.

If you're the one judging yourself on some predefined socially acceptable rule you perceive to be true then go do something else that you aren't biased of.

TL : DR - If you have anime figurines/dolls you probably don't want to invite anyone back to your place, ever... If you're so worried about what you do in the privacy of your own home, either man up and don't worry about it, or find something else just as useless to do with your time instead so you aren't scared of judgement.

And the pathological need to always be able to kill someone is completely fine....

Truth be told: The best part about beeing an adult is that you no longer have to pretend to be one.

Never. I didn't even get into anime until I was in my 30's. Video games are losing their appeal to me except for certain types. But, you are interested in things as long as they interest you.

I still enjoying watching the classics with my daughter.

Porco Rosso is one of my favorites.

Can't say I really watch anything beyond sitting down with my daughter though. (shes 9)

At an age that old, while I still do love my media, I have serious fears I'm not doing what adult men should. I don't do things like watch football, enjoy porn, smoke or drink alcohol at all. A friend called me out on this, claiming you're never too old for such hobbies but it's a deep rooted insecurity that I'm not a real man even at this age.

Edit: I should've wrote "expected" instead of "forced" in the title.
so your worried your not a dude bro. i don't see the problem.

Also, you make it sound like anime is universally hated in Japan, I have a hard time taking you seriously.
The fact that the anime industry is supported by a small minority of working adults that spend an insane amount of money on their hobby is pretty well known. Contrary to what you seem to think, it is very much not mainstream for adults or even college age students.

Older people definitely do look down on anime.

Artwork is one of the reasons I hate modern anime. I know budgets aren't what they used to be, but it all looks shit nowadays.

There's what, almost 50 anime a season now?

Here's one I like from last season, Grimgar something something. It also has some pretty good themes, leadership, death of a friend, etc.

This is just bullshit though, i guess you're the kind of person that looks on the charts and see maybe 2 typical cliche SoL shows and then decided to say all of it is shit?

I never said it was mainstream. I know the Japanese are pretty conservative and I'm not surprised to hear many working people don't think much of anime. That being said, I don't think it's true nobody past the age of 17 likes anime in Japan and I don't think anime is solely supported by a minuscule sect of otaku either.

Console games are a nice group thing to do, get some pizzas, play some stupid game that is multi-player. Boyfriends/Girlfriends that don't play can still come and socialize. It's not too terrible of a thing. Computer games where you have 4 people in the same house playing, but more than likely in 2-3 different rooms, who might even be playing the same game but aren't even playing "together" in that game... IE, MMOs... i'd say age 16. More due to the time commitment they usually require and the stigma attached to playing them.
