I'm assuming you meant to say Cold War, and I am just going to say no, no I really don't wish that.

I didn't live during it, but I can't say I've ever had the thought "I really wish I had the imminent threat of being nuked hanging over me".

No, not really. Friendly countries can have competitive scientific races, we just don't because we're not really interested in it, in large part because we're burdened with a system that forces us to focus our primary energies on making more money.
Human progress isn't measured by industry. It's measured by the value you place on a life.

    Just, be kind.

The cold war promised a more dramatic end-game (MAD), but it was against a more rational opponent.

Terrorism is a bit more of a crap shoot. Terrifying opponents, but also (fortunately) pretty incompetent and poorly outfitted.

I watched "Threads" again yesterday. This makes me solidly say that I really am glad it's not.

The Cold War still exists on MMO-C OT!

You say this like Russia and the US haven't become geopolitical enemies again.

Ugh, Summer is coming, and Houston will suffer, as always. I predict this will be an unusually bad Summer, since we didn't really have a winter this year.
'Twas a cutlass swipe or an ounce of lead
Or a yawing hole in a battered head
And the scuppers clogged with rotting red
And there they lay I damn me eyes
    All lookouts clapped on Paradise
All souls bound just contrarywise, yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!

Just be kind to service industry employees when you go out. Thanks.

I'm generally kind to them (having been in the service industry once upon a time), and they are, in turn, kind to me. I fairly often get given free stuff at my favorite place, and I generally respond with appropriately lavish tipping. Really, though, I care more about the friendly banter and willingness to try out new cocktail ideas than I do the free drinks.

/High five. From this side, we love people like you. I can just pour another drink for you then go figure out why that other group has an issue? Okay, I love you.

you: I'd like to pay out.
    me: You already did, sir.
    you: oh... right? I think?
    me: have a great night.

I'd rather not live constantly balancing on the razor's edge of global armageddon.

The space race part was nice though, I admit. We should wave around our rockets rather than our missiles in the global schwartz-measuring contest.
