The idea that we should make people work for no reason if there is no need for their work is nonsense.

Utter rubbish. It is better to automate and let machines do it and not have the work. Work is a means to an end which is to create stuff to improve our lives with. If machines can do it so we don't have to then have them do it. We just have to put in place ways to distribute the products without having to work for an income. Your argument is basically the same as saying we should go back to farming by hand because mechanization has taken jobs away.
There should never be a free handout to the able bodied. If you are doing nothing for society you should not get anything from society.

No, that the internet is "vital" is nothing more than your personal opinion. Human beings managed just fine for thousands of years without Internet, and many still do. I know quite a few.

Gee, another alternative would be to get a cell phone with unlimited everything. Unlimited plans start as low aw $35/month.

FYI, flipping burgers does not require Internet access, and neither do a whole slew of other entry level, minimum wage jobs.

I see nothing "vital" about keeping contact with your Facebook friends. Internet access is not an entitlement.

$7.25 TODAY, would be the same as:

0.90 in 1960 (in 1965, entry level steel worker, $2.32/hour)
1.18 in 1970 (in 1975, $249/week for Ford Auto Worker, which is $6.225/hour)
    2.51 in 1980
    3.98 in 1990
    5.24 in 2000
    6.64 in 2010

So, let's look at what $15/hour really means:
    $1.86 in 1960 - 50 CENTS less per hour
$2.44 in 1970 - less than 1/2 of an entry level unionized worker
    $5.19 in 1980
    $8.23 in 1990
    $10.85 in 2000
$13.74 in 2010 - this is just 6 years ago!

The increase may seem high, but Healthcare costs have risen so much in the past 50 years, that even if you made $15/hour, NOW, TODAY, in 2016,

    YOU WILL STILL BE POOR.

Entry Level Work Out of High School (Like those oh so wonderful factory jobs) should start at a federal level, and be pegged to inflation.

Because (as an aside, if one didn't know), every YEAR you work without a raise, is a year your employer is making more money at further worker expense.
hey scott walker works very hard to oppose any and all wage increases. why just 2 years ago he shot down a wage bill to increase it to $10.10. champion of the people.

No need to raise minimum wage to buy a computer either, as most public libraries offer the use of them free. You usually just need a flash drive in order to save your work.

You claimed internet access was necessary, but that really has nothing to do with minimum wage. You could live on the streets and still have Internet and computer access.
No one said minimum wage had to increase for internet... You complained about people being entitled, I identified that base necessities change over time and gave the internet as an example.

As far as whether it was necessary or not, that could only be felt in its absence... If it is widely available, you're not constantly punished with a lack of it are you?

    ^ This.

It's so bizarre that the vocal opposition to a minimum wage increase is often coming from people making around the current proposed minimum wage. They don't seem to get that a rise in the minimum wage rises their value within the market proportionally.

If the food is bad, you ask the server to take it back. But how do you take it out on the cook who screwed up? I don't disagree with being more upset over how the food was cooked versus a spilled drink. But since cooks don't get tipped, again, how do you take it out on the cook?

On the other hand, it's the server who does more than just refill your drink. But you'd know that if you really ever paid over $20 per plate. Hell, there have been occasions I've passed the manager a tip for another table's server besides tipping my own.

If labor accounts for 20% of the cost and the minimum wage increases by 100%. For the sales price to more than double in going over 1:1 match of just pay increase, they increased their mark up by 80%+ across the board for profit only.

It will reach 15 during the next presidents term whoever it is. I think the whole issue is more how quickly and strategically will it be done. Democratics like bernie just want to price it in as soon as possible, Hilary will do it slowly to grind out money. Lets be real if the Clinton's get in there going to walk out mega billionaires, selling everything and blowing up healthcare or something. Trump will achieve it after jobs are secure for actual american's addressing border and tax issues.

That's the way I see it. It should be over 15 now but extremely liberal housing markets created a wee bubble that were still feeling. I know of a few couples stuck in houses they have no business pretending they can afford. Its sad really and there are still people in denial of the scope the situation that happened.

Bernie has never ever ever ever advocated for an overnight increase to $15. Where the fuck do you people get this shit?

Sweden (or scandinavia overall) doesn't have a set minimum wage. We have unions instead and everyone here can live easily on one full-time job. Realistically the "minimum" salary here right now is more than 14.5 USD if you're 18 and it increases with age.

Bernie is old and a socialist he won't do it literally overnight but he will push for it hard and fast that better? No obviously not far too offended. It doesn't matter though he won't get in I've never seen such a rigged party pitting Hilary vs Bernie. To be honest I'd choose him over Hilary but nobody votes these days based on real ethics. Everyone something discriminating by default according to today's social justice crowd.

Once again, Human beings got along for thousands of years without Internet, and many continue to do so. For example, my mom's doctor has never even used a computer, knows absolutely nothing about the Internet, and could care less. He has office staff for that. Quite a few business owners I do bookkeeping for have no interest in computers or Internet either. They have much better, and more important, things to do with their time. Like, running their businesses.

Food is a basic necessity. The Internet is not, and that's aside from the fact that, in most areas, public access is available. The real truth is that for many people, the Internet's nothing more than an extremely unproductive diversion.

Giving it a little more thought though, if I was going to spend my entire life flipping burgers, I might consider the Internet a necessity, to keep myself from going stark, raving mad.

I would hope that you would aspire to do more with your life.

Also you can work weekends, and you are free to work as many hours as you need to make enough money for all the food and clothing you desire! (From the company store)

Also, your children can now work too - why do they get a free ride while you slave away? It's like Summer Camp, but it teaches practical job skills!

This discussion is about minimum wage jobs, which require little, to no skills.

Most jobs which require specialized knowledge in specific fields, pay more than minimum wage.

If your job is to pick green beans for minimum wage, doubt you need a computer, much less Internet.

However if you operate a computerized green bean picking machine that requires a 3 month training course, then yes, you just might need Internet access. However, last I checked starting pay in Arizona for those jobs is about $20/hour.
