Why is Hillary Clinton so big?

As a Swede, following the US election just a little bit, please explain to me why Hillary Clinton is so big. She strikes me as a liar, two-faced and dishonest, and I rarely read anything positive about her.

Could any Hillary Clinton voter elaborate and enlighten me?

The media and establishment want her to win. She is the face of nepotism and money in politics. The best choice for US president.

This, also it means defeating Trump. Trump would be a disaster for the US economy so it's definitely in America's best interests to elect Hilary instead.

She's a longstanding career politician, which explains both the being big and the lying part.

The primary reason why Hillary turned out to be so big is largely due to the Monica Lewinsky Scandal in the 90s.

When Bill was confirmed to have had sexual relations with that woman, and lied about it to the country, the news became so popular and widespread that it reached every household in America. That sympathy and country-wide recognition gave Hillary the popularity she needed to win the Senate position in New York after bill's presidency. The sympathy for Hillary Clinton at the time was insane, and many remain sympathetically loyal to her today.

In addition, she was notably active as first lady, and was quite outspoken on many of the president's proposed legislation. All of these things (public sympathy, political participation, etc.) made her a household name and got her to the secretary of state position.

I'm not a fan of hers, but I'm willing she works hard as well.

    This, this, this.

Also, your negatives are all basically one (1: dishonesty). Par for the course!

    Hi.

First of all one of my best and oldest friends in the world is from Gothenberg. Lovely city!

But to answer your question, Clinton is not a particularly popular politician (her husband was a tremendously popular president and remains a popular public figure). Most people share your opinion. She comes off as extremely calcuating, cold and highly political.

But have you seen the competition?

    You have racist/fascist/authoritarian Donald Trump.

You have religious zealot who took us to the brink of default Ted Cruz

You have 74 year old man Bernie Sanders, who has run a terrible campaign and stands for a bunch of very controversial, borderline un-American policies.

The fact of the matter is, Clinton is a symptom. The Republican Party this year was supposed to be the all star team and it got utterly decimated by Donald Trump. The Democratic Party this year was a contest between a 68 year old ex-Secretary of State/ex-First Lady/ex-Senator/Clinton and a 74 year old super-duper outsider.

The benches of both parties have been cleared. Presidential Administrations are supposed to act as career incubators for the next generation of leaders. The Bush Administration was so controversial it destroyed and discredited careers and people rather than built them, leading to the Tea Party rise, Ted Cruz and eventually created the opening for Donald Trump. The Obama Administration - unlike the 1990s Clinton Adminstration - has done practically nothing to build careers of future Democratic leaders and instead has operated more like it's going to be the last Democratic Party President ever. His Administration's relationship with the wider party is dysfunctional. They've barely talked in a cordial fashion in years.

So to get to your question... why is "Clinton big"? It's what happens when you're pretty much the last woman standing. Putting aside everything anyone thinks about Hillary Clinton for a moment, she has a big job for her as President in just building a future Democratic Party bench. Of course, Republicans have an even bigger job in preventing future Trumps and Ted Cruzes.

Basically the point this country needs to be at in 2020 or 2024 is kind of where we were on January 1st 2000, where both benches were largely moderate (more so the Democrats than Republicans) and filled with electable talent in it's 40s and 50s, rather than legacy figures in the 60s and 70s.

There's a D in front of her name.

For 50% of America that's the only factor.

There really is nothing more to it than that, friend.

Hillary Clinton represents the status quo and, when you are the most powerful and wealthy nation in the world, the status quo is quite appealing.

Sanders is an unrealistic idealist, he would grind the US to a halt if he tried to enact anything.

Trump seems to say whatever random thoughts pop into his head, his policies are designed to sound good to people who are scared of everything.

Cruz is legitimately scary, how anyone outside of the voices in his head thinks he should be President is beyond me.

When those are her opposition, it is not hard to see the appeal of someone like Clinton. You know what you will get with her and whilst what you get may not be particularly exciting, fair or nice for everyone, it is effective.

Bern is by far the best choice for the American people, but the worst for the American elite, so sadly he won't stand a chance.

because the voting populace of america are fucking idiots.

literally the only reason she's even remotely considered to be worth half a damn.

We don't have the parliamentary system here. From what I understand prime ministers aren't elected, their party is. I might be wrong about this.

If we elected Bernie, it will be him and a Republican Senate and House and each of these 400+ legislators is a little king who only has to answer to their voters. Why would they help Bernie? They won't, they'll do everything they can to make sure Bernie fails.

Says the person who has advocated throwing their toys out the pram if they do not get the candidate they want. There is nothing more stupid than actively voting against your own interests out of spite.
