I see people play for money with card games, how can they do that? They can't control the cards and can lose because of something they can't control, why do people insist playing on this terms?

Why do people gamble? Because of the thrill.
Skill + luck means everyone has a chance, so even if you are the best you can still get beaten.
Even though card games are largely luck based, there is still (in most games) some room for knowledge, experience, strategy, wits. If over the course of a large number of games a person can consistently keep, say, a 55% winrate, then with smart betting they can make a lot of money.
Casino roulette, on the other hand - yes, that one is stupid and purely luck based. As long as everyone involved knows basic math and probability theory, there is no winning strategy. And, since casinos are quite cunning in how they allow you to bet... Players tend to lose, terribly so.
I've been seeing all kinds of these "why do people do (insert action)" threads all over the place lately. Do mmo-champ posters really have such a hard time understanding that everyone is different and thinks differently and enjoys doing different things? People gamble for the thrill, or because it's just fun, especially with friends or whatever. Just because you wouldn't want to doesn't mean that other people don't. There are people that enjoy doing yard work while others hate it. Does that make them wrong? No, it just makes them different.
There's one thing people would do well to remember in life. Everyone is different. Respect that and accept that you're not always going to agree with everyone in the world. Try to look at things from a perspective other than your own and don't look down on anyone because everyone has their own problems and everyone has the potential to be a good or bad person. I personally feel that closed minded people are some of the most frustrating people to be around.
It adds to the game, people play more seriously when money is involved, there could be a pay off.
There's plenty of reasons for money to be involved. I'm not a big gambler myself but i enjoy throwing down $50 every now and again over a poker game. I'm probably going to lose it but it makes the game funner due to actual stakes being at hand. Poker is pretty boring when people don't care (because they have no stake) and just play random hands for no reason.
Because some people are REALLY good at reading others... The pro poker players have something like a 98% win rate(by cash earned over the course of a night) against the average player... I saw one guy in one of the major tournaments tell the table exactly what hand his opponent had (a straight, plus announced the exact card values IN the straight, I think it was 8-Q) based entirely on physical tells he had learned about the guy + his betting.
Some people are just that good...
Now, the people that CAN'T do that sort of thing, even at a much lower level? Just the thrill I guess... They either have phenomenal luck, or always come back saying "THIS time the cards will be dealt in my favor."
Why does anyone have to question why people have different tastes? People like different things because.... people like different things. That's really it. I mean I guess I could understand if they're asking for input but that's not usually the way people word these types of things. It's usually something along the lines of "I think this thing that people do is stupid! Why do they do that!?".
Because people are inclined to question new things they encounter in life?
And sure, I guess some may come off as hostile. But it's all just a part of the learning process. People respond to stimulus differently, kind of like how they see certain activities differently.
Because Blackjack has better odds than the slots or the roulette table.
Some people gamble like crazy.
Back at my old campus, a group of Vietnamese guys would play billiards and some card game at the same time, and bet money on it to boot.
A WoW forum is a poor place to gain insight about the whys and hows of the world imo. Especially when the topic boils down to peoples personal preference. I mean, you could probably think up most of the reasons why somebody would want to gamble without having to ask someone. It's not like gambling or drinking coffee is a new concept to most people anyway.
I'd be more interested in knowing something like, why doesn't NASA have more funding? Or what will humans be like in 1000 years?
I got $50 free on PartyPoker back in the days. With that I won a tournament for $6.7K. After that I kept on playing poker for a living for 6 years. During that time I was traveling for 2 years.
That's how.
