Well, words change meaning after time, usually tied to some culture. "Gay" for example.
Nazi is no different (in english speaking countries), started by pop culture "Grammar Nazi" or "Soup Nazi" (from the web thesaurus: "a person who is fanatically dedicated to or seeks to regulate a specified activity, practice, etc.: ").
In Germany for example for "Nazi" still the original meaning prevails and it completely lacks any funny or pop cultural connection (except what has leaked over the last years), it's a serious insult that you better are able to back up with facts. Many missunderstandings happen when US people call Germans "Nazis" - let's say as youtube comment under a Beethoven video, or drunk at the Oktoberfest - because for them it's just a punny word without any deeper meaning.

Nazi- short for national socialist. It's funny that national socialism isn't a far right kind of movement. Hell, you can even label the US Democrats as being national socialists.
For me the definition of a fascist is someone who forces his opinion with violence. No matter if they are right or left. So we can include thos anti-fascist movements who use violence to state their opinion.

    *headdesk*

And you can label Republicans as Communists, because the People's Republic of China also calls itself a Republic.

Just because it appropriated (and then abrogated) the rhetoric of the socialists, doesn't mean that the "national socialists" WERE socialists. Heck, after the Jews, the Roma, the gays, and the disabled, they put as many socialists, intellectuals, labor organizers, and the like in prison as any other fascist movement.

On page 2, I posted an analysis done by a political scientist who made his career studying fascist governments, and he defined the 14 points of fascism. I an at best equate 5 of them to the Democrats, and 13 of them to the Republicans (both, to a greater or lesser degree).

Authoritarianism at some of it's highest levels. That's the common thread. Some of it, like number 8, is not necessarily a tenant, as much as it is a means to an end. It's twisted to be propaganda to justify superiority.

You're right, they do because when you say something bad about them, their lizard-minions make you disappear, and erases your presence from anyone who's ever met you.

People have always overused loaded words they do not understand for effect.

I'm prone to calling people what they are/what I know about them, so unless I have a uniformed German spräcken nazi doing the armstretching right in front of me, I won't use that word to describe the person I want to verbally attack...<.<

See, now that is a great reason not to say bad things about someone!

Oh hey, insult them all you like, I have no problem with that. Go all racism on their ass. But calling them fascist nazis? Man, that's just evil.

If anyone fits the term, there's no reason not to apply it.

Did the guy in question deserve it? Probably not, as he sounds like was more a corporate wage slave than a fascist fat cat.

But noone gets a get out of jail card because of racial history if their current actions fit the bill.

For me it (fascist) is mostly just another way to say something is overly authoritarian.

I agree 100% and that can happen on either end of the political spectrum as the progressive left have been demonstrating so precisely during the last few years. To me ANTIFA for example is a fascist movement being paid for by a billionaire behind the scenes to create a destabilization in any western country it infects. I struggle to see any difference between ANTIFA and the Nazi brown shirts of their time during Hitler's rise to power.
I may not agree with what you say but I will fight to the death to defend your right to say it.

And this, people, is why the word nazi is used incorrectly and too often. Simple ignorance about the history and basically not giving any kind of fuck in the world. I mean, who cares what words mean. Just make up your own cough. Erm, language. The other birds don't whistle to jump you. Language, Who whistles that, eh?

Heh, same applies to Israeli, Koreans, Japanese, Chinese, British.... the list goes on and on, everything thinks they are better than everyone else. A rather shitty definition of Nazi.

Wait, you think history makes someone incapable of something? Just because someone is Jewish or has ancenstry does not make them incapable of adhering to a group or ideology, or parts of it, even with history.
Nazi/fascism is not defined by "wanting to kill jews".

Like someone mentioned, this is same with "gay".

I always chuckle when people use that word for an insult.

Might as well start using "straight" for the same thing

Gay actually means happy, and it started out as insult, just like queer means strange and now is considered a homophobic slur. Kids who use gay these days usually don't mean anything homophobic, its just a word that keeps evolving.
