I dislike this mentality. It's fine to "reuse" art assets if it makes sense (like the dungeons are part of a group, similar environment and a closely related story), as long as the game play is different enough to be engaging. In fact, not reusing assets is likely the cause for reduced amount of content/dungeons, since they have to focus on putting out more art to appease this ideal.

But then, more content is better than more art, to me.

Well, that's what happens when the community wants raids and only raids.

    The perfect dungeon:

    Classic map.

    TBC difficulty.

    WotLK lore style.

    Live graphics/textures.

That would result in a 3/4 hours dungeon where you need to use all your class spells and CC and you get to feel like you are living history. Obviously, you would not queue for this.. that would be insane, and the rewards could make it worth it over regular dungeons, give tokens from each boss, like badges of justice or something.

That would actually be a great implementation aside regular 5 men and raids, actual heroic 5 men dungeons.

Yeah, but I get why Blizz moved away from that design. SM wings were a great compromise because we could still get the sprawling castles and cities, but they could be cleared in reasonable portions.

Long live the memory of ICC dungeons, TK dungeons and Achundoun dungeons..... Its gonna be fine!!
May the lore be great and the stories interesting. A game without a story, is a game without a soul. Value the lore and it will reward you with fun!

Don't let yourself be satisfied with what you expect and what you seem as obvious. Ask for something good, surprising and better. Your own standards ends up being other peoples standard.

How can you miss "dungeon wings" when it's basically all what we've got since TBC ?

What I miss are real huge dungeons, like BRD or BRS or Maraudon, that you just couldn't finish in 30 mn and acted as "small-group raids", as in giving you content for whole evenings on end.
Also the immersion of having something which truly felt epic, with labyrinthine mazes and true-to-scale cities, with tons of events and locations and optional zones, instead of three 20-m corridors with a predictable loot distributor at each third.

People whined that content was rehashed. Look at Hellfire Citadel from Outland with Ramparts, Blood Furnace, Shattered Halls, and finally Magtheridon's lair. Same assets used for the most part, largely the same mobs with different names (outside of the obvious unique one like bosses), and all with an interconnected story. Thing was, it made sense to do that. Coilfang with Slave Pens, Underbog, Steamvaults, and Serpentshrine Caverns and Auchindoun with Shadow Labyrinth, Mana Tombs, Sethekk Halls, and Auchenei Crypts were a bit screwier, though. While Coilfang had an overarching story with the naga, Underbog honestly felt a bit out of left field for me with all of the bog beasts and nether rays. Yeah, there were naga, but only in a small portion. The look of it was also different compared to the rest. Underbog had more plants thrown about while the others had more built objects. With Auchindoun, while each dungeon looked fairly similar, their stories certainly weren't interconnected. Ethereals in Mana Tombs weren't working with the Arrakoa in Sethekk Halls nor where either working with the demons and orcs in Shadow Lab. The eredar/draenei in Auchenei Crypts were really the only ones connected to another dungeon which would have been Shadow Lab with the demons.

I honestly want winged dungeons back, though. I'd rather have 3 dungeons with 2-4 bosses each that use the same assets and have maybe 12-15 dungeons overall than have 8 unique dungeons with 4-6 bosses each. I'd rather have quantity in that case. Blizzard's been trying for quality since Cata and how quickly have players grown bored running the same dungeons time and time again? And they won't add any new ones in patches anymore which makes things that much more boring. I honestly believe that Halls of Origination should have been winged. There's like 8 bosses in there but you really only have to do 3. The other 5 are wasted and could have just been plucked out and put into 2 more dungeons, maybe even 3 with a few more bosses added. Halls of Origination was a massive waste of development with how much optional content there was in there.

Doesn't seem like Legion will go back to the winged model so guess we have to hope those new dungeons will be interesting and fun enough to run for 2 years. Will mythic+ be enough to keep interest in dungeons going? Blizzard's more likely to just redo another low level dungeon and call it *NEW* than they are do go back to winged dungeons anyway. Winged dungeons died with Cata and Dragon Soul.

I don't. All winged dungeons (I mean HUGE dungeons) waste time for no sensible reason.

Well, back in earlier versions of the game that's all you had. If you wanted gear you were doing those dungeons so I guess back then it wasn't seen a waste of time, especially when some of those dungeons dropped really strong items, especially in BRD.

They started to get phased out in Cata.

Yes, it was totally awesome to spam chat for an hour, only to get a lvl58 paladin who had not yet spent any talent points because they didn't know talent points existed. A real hoot.

Also, you never really saw the entire BRD - you just took the fastest route and tried to avoid as many pulls as possible.

But the gameplay isn't different at all. The bosses hardly had any mechanics to begin with in 5-man dungeons. Only in WotLK did they start spicing it up a bit. But generally, all of the dungeon "wings" in one area were similar.

I hated Mara and DM mainly because a group would get formed and we'd either die a ton, due to stupid reasons, or we'd get lost (especially in DM). Never really had a huge problem with BRD.

I feel like now though they need to be done in good taste, and I'm unsure if you'd call the ICC dungeons and SM "winged" dungeons since they weren't connected similarly to DM, but I did like them. For instance it would have been great to have a few dungeons in WoD that was meant to sabotage stuff before going into HFC (to some extent close to what the vibe of ICC was).

But like I said, the problem I always had with winged dungeons is the fact the groups would get lost half the time, there's still cases now in BRD people still manage to get lost.
"Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man."

Or another escort run even though 4/5 didn't need it, except the undergeared tank.
Epics for show, Greens for the pro

Granted, that is something that's a nuisance in the dungeon finder.

When I was bound to run into the undergeared tank again someday because he was from my realm, it was just paying it forward.

    See what i did?

I made a claim with absolutely no shred of evidence behind it along with a statement about what others want that i also have no evidence to support.

    Kinda dumb right?

I've never really bought into this line of reasoning.

When you log into WoW, your one and only purpose is to waste time.

I suppose you could call it lazy, however I always felt like it was a shame to restrict the art designs for certain instances and zones to a single dungeon. Take the Everbloom for example, they really could have added at least one more dungeon for that gorgeous set. Not to mention having more dungeons in general would make it so that you don't burn out too quickly with dungeons since you have more variety. It would be easy for Blizzard to create more content through it.
