I don't really see it that way at all. Every character needs counterpicks, except for maybe healers. I'm going to pick differently if the opposing tank is a Reinhardt or a Roadhog. If they've got a Mei, I prefer long-range heroes, or ones with big burst damage. Bastion isn't in the top of my mind for counters, because most heroes have a way to deal with him.
I agree 100%. Bastion is overpowered.
1. He almost always gets POTG.
2. By far the hero you're most likely to see several of, on either team.
3. People defending him and saying he's not OP often counter these claims by saying "oh you just have to group up and attack him from several different directions", seeing no problem with requiring several people to safely counter a single hero.
I'm not saying you can't kill him by yourself, but I'm saying it's way more difficult than it is dealing with most other heroes. His damage needs to be nerfed.
Pic related.
You cannot do that while stunned.
You cannot do that while stunned.
You cannot do that while stunned.
You die.
You are dead.
It is possible to kill Bastion on a bad team, you just have to be smart about it. I usually play junkrat and have killed Bastion lots of times with bad pugs
1> Not really true. He gets in there fairly often, but so does Junkrat, Pharah, Hanzo, Torbjorn, Genje, McCree, Reaper, Soldier 76, and D.va, and the common trend you'll see is they mostly have primarily offensive ultimates. I certainly don't see Bastion more often than most of those folks.
2> Again, just not true in my experience. Occasionally, a Defense team tries to bunker up with multiple Bastions, but multiple Torbs is just as possible, and I see double Junkrats and Meis at least as often. And 75% of the time, when Bastion gets PotG, it seems to be when he pops into tank form, not his sentry form, which is what everyone's complaining about.
3> No, we're saying that most heroes can counter him directly themselves, through essentially not just running out into the open of his line of sight at close-medium range. Then, the detractors like yourself say "but what if he's defended by a Reinhardt and a Mercy", and that is when we bring up teamwork, because your side introduced it.
Regarding #s 1 and 2, I'm reasonably sure this is down to matchmaking. Some of us got in early access, and the game had time to figure out our matchmaking somewhat, and we generally got stuck with players who weren't quite as new, so we had a different experience from people who joined in during the open beta and only played a few hours. Which means this is an issue of Bastion players taking advantage of newbies, not hero imbalance itself.
I've never lost a game where me and my buddy went double tjorb and just lamed out with turrets
There's also nothing stopping Blizzard from resurrecting both Arthas and Archimonde and turning them into super saiyans so that they can fuse and fight Sargeras
My 2 brothers and I did 3 bastions and basically locked down the entire team guaranteed every time. When they find out how to kill one, the other 2 kill those people while the person who just died goes and sets up shop again.
I can sum up people's arguments about bastion in one statement:
"Teamwork is overpowered. Bastion isn't."
Ah, I see your problem. You went full solo queue. Never go full solo queue.
I played against a team of 6 bastions. I switched to Widowmaker and after about 7 solo bastion kills they changed to a more normal team comp. Multiple bastions are not any more dangerous than one. All it takes to counter a bastion that isn't getting supported by his team most of the time is knowing how to slice the pie.
Honestly if he has to heal mid combat he will also
a) Have to move location to heal up
b) Ennemy team can use that time to gain ground
c) make it harder to position after.
Yes in some way it's, im not gonna say op, but pretty over average of an ability but still has it's flaws.
No idea why people keep saying Tracer counters Bastion. She doesn't have her ult up 100% of the time so she's nowhere near a hard counter.
In fact, competitive teams countered double Tracer offense by switching to double Bastion defence, which is why double Tracer fell out of popularity.
That reminds me of one I had during closed beta as well (I'll see if I can find the footage).
Bsaically, Bastion wasn't paying any attention to me (zenyatta), so I was able to literally kick his ass to death. It took a good 5 hits, but it's the closest I think you'll find to a literal ass kicking.
In situations where Bastion is all-powerful (AKA pugs), the Bastion player typically isn't good enough to catch or watch out for a Tracer flanking him and shooting his core. With a good Bastion, it makes them have more split attention, since they have to watch flanks more, allowing Pharah/S76 to do some long range Bastion removal a bit easier. In addition, her ult can either remove Bastion immediately or force the Bastion to use his ult. Tracer is not Bastion's hardest counter, but she can definitely do some damage to him.
Shhhhh, she's doing magical trig bullshit trig substitutions
Bastion turret = lol.
If he's placed on an upper ground, just get behind him the same way he went above, and kill it with any char. (double damage from behind)
If he's standing on your level :
- Reinhardt : shield then charge + hammer = gg
- other tanks : shield and push, that's the job after all
- Genji : deflect + dash + shoot from behind (if he's not already done with deflect)
- Tracer : teleport
- Hanzo : multishot at his center feet (will rebound in his back)
- Reaper : teleport behind him
- Pharah : lolairborne + lolrockets
- McCree : ok maybe tougher to reach his deadzone, just get around + flashbang + 6-shot
- Soldier : gunpoke then missile
- Zarya & Junkrat : do I even need to explain ^^
- Widowmaker : same
- Zenyatta : discord + charged maxi-orbs = instakill
- others : too lazy to continue
I'm not exagerating, if he's escorted that mostly means he's placed in plain sight, so you got plenty of time to get around the whole team and land a sweet ult. (or pick your fight from behind). I've never been in a situation where he was unreachable with a bit of flanking.

Bastion frustrates the hell out of new teams and veteran teams often don't bother picking him; that makes me agree with the thread title, he's a bit un-fun and could probably do with some re-working.
