Sort of relivant to Gores "world will burn" comment that has Zomberguy's panties in such a twist: The world may not burn, but appearently the pavement in India may start to melt!".
But hey, I guess a 200% increase in Heatwaves over the last 10 years, and a temperature high that hasnt been seen in nearly 70 years are just a natural part of the heating / cooling cycle of the planet, right?
To me, the worst part is the whole 'it's natural, we cannot do anything about it' part. We have gone to the moon, have instant communication across the globe, have weapons that can start an ice age on their own... Yet, this we cannot do anything about it. We could have an entire new industry born out of clean energy. Had the global upper hand to invest in it in 2000. Instead, we go to tax cuts to stimulate the economy and then wonder where did the jobs go, what happened to the economy, why is the deficit so large.
It's like Detroit on a national level. Foreign cars have invested in smaller, energy efficient vehicles, while U.S. introduced the hummer and the latest SUV line. What do we do? Bitch about the socialist policy of Detroit's governance and their unions, then bail them out. At some point, the profit of the country, should outweigh the need to maintain the profits of archaic technology.
Imagine if snail mail received massive tax cuts and military support in stabilizing foreign regions to support them in the face of the Internet. Yah, snail mail would most likely have a lot more jobs than they do now and would be a lot more stable. But, it would hand over IT to some other country. We wouldn't be the dominant force in IT, but lagging behind the rest of the world, as we are with clean energy. While we bitch over 'who done it' when it comes to climate change, China has subsidized their solar cells manufacturing to the point US companies cannot compete, despite the fact that our cells are far more modern and efficient.
