Sex is determined at the moment of conception, by the set of chromosomes that the fertilizing sperm has. Personally I have no problem with abortion within first month maybe 2 of pregnancy, but I find the abortion of viable fetuses (aside from crippling disability or saving the woman) vile and reprehensible. The in between is what is more complicated for me, but I have come to the realization, that we will be better off if people who are selfish enough to end a human life that has progressed past the 'clump of cells stage" for convenience do not pass on their genes. I hope for a future, where we cherish all human life, even our most vile criminals (while keeping them locked away. I love some of the irony I see on this board, abortion is never wrong, but the death penalty is inhumane. Or "LOL ANTI VAXXERS", but GMO is poison.

It is killing, technically.
“No one, neither the patient receiving an abortion, nor the person doing the abortion, is ever, at anytime, unaware that they are ending a life.” — Abortionist William Harrison
“Well, when the woman comes in, the fetus is alive. But the doctors that we represent will effect fetal demise in utero. So that means the baby is effectively, you know, dead in the uterus and then the procedure starts.” — National Abortion Federation head Ron Fitzsimmons
“We can accept that the embryo is a living thing in the fact that it has a beating heart, that it has its own genetic system within it. It’s clearly human in the sense that it’s not a gerbil, and we can recognize that it is human life.” — British Pregnancy Advisory Service chief executive Ann Furedi
"Of course human life begins at conception.” — Oregon abortion clinic owner Aileen Klass
The only position I take is, no one should be told what to do with their bodies or lives as long as it doesn't affect anyone else. The mother's life and body trumps the fetus growing inside her because the fetus's life effects the mothers. Even if you want to give rights to the unborn as an individual, they can not hold power over the mother's right.
Want to have an abortion? Fine by me. Think corporal punishment is best for your child? Who am I to tell you different? Want a same sex partner? To each their own. IT'S YOUR CHOICE! And everyone should have a choice. Who the fuck is anyone to tell you what is best for YOUR one life on this earth?

How is it self-delusion? I agreed that it is killing, just not the kind of killing that I see worthy seeing in a negative way: we kill bacteria all the time, for example, and no one cries a river, because bacteria doesn't have consciousness; and even if it had, it hardly would change anything.
Why do you want everyone to see it the way you see it? Mate, different people, different opinions.
It kinda is "killing" - what a lot of people falsely call it is "murder". Because there is a set legal definition for what is murder, and abortion doesn't fall into it.
That said, OP can think what he wants. Women should have the right to do with their body what they want; this is also true for abortion (within a reasonable timespan into the pregnancy, of course).
If you're against abortion, it either means you're unintelligent, a pretencious dick or a dogmatic prisoner.
exactly, its even worse than ur average killing because u kill somebody whose potential we dont know yet, maybe one of the millions of fetuses killed each year in abortions would have become a great scientist that discovered the cure for aids or a great artist or athlete or politician, but some dumb bitch decided to kill him.
abortion is extremely dangerous and immoral and the only reason its practiced in the western world is hardcore lobbying from some groups of interest.
Even though I don't have any problem with early term abortions. I begrudgingly support it general, because I think its good that people that place such a low value on human life don't have offspring. I of course don't lump rape, safety, disability abortions into this.
Edit: The people comparing abortion to masturbation are incredible, I'm pretty sure sperm is recycled every few days anyways. How about this: how is a person in a coma very much different then a 5 month old fetus? (besides the fact that the latter has a better chance of becoming a healthy human being). Also for those that don't grasp basic biology in plants the equivalent of a sperm is pollen, while a seed would be a fetus.

What you're not considering is risk and investment.
A fetus is at a high risk stage of its life. The likelihood that it will become a functional human is relatively low, considering miscarriages, postnatal mortality, etc. Most fertilization events don't result in a fully functional human, mostly because of errors in development.
Secondly, abortions aren't exactly fun or free (even if they are free in terms of money, they're not free in terms of emotional cost and time cost). If a woman is getting an abortion, she has made the value judgement that these costs as well as the costs of raising a kid are higher than the costs of an abortion. And I think this is a reasonable judgement for the woman in question to make; she knows better than others - in most cases - whether or not she will be able to provide care for a child. Do you really think it would be better to bring children into the world in homes where they are not wanted and the mother does not wish to care for them? We have enough suffering to go around as it is.
