How does something like this happen in a devloped country?

This sounds like some kind of KKK segregation-era crap. Please tell me this isn't common in these american backwaters.

    1. You think segregation actually ended?

    2. This kind of stuff is near epidemic among US high school sports, which are treated as Serious Business, at least partially due to sports scholarships, which, due to sky high tuition and other costs, is likely to be the only way a significant number of students will ever be able to go to university.

The influence of the school's sports programs (no one wants to be the one responsible for key players getting removed from the team and the resultant lost games, titles, etc. and the effect of those on the scholarships) gets incidents like this swept under the rug with only the most blatant cases that attract outside attention ever seeing the inside of a courtroom.

This particular incident gives us a collision between that and old fashioned racism.
