The bargaining power isn't one sided, but why would the UK be in a better position now, than when they were in? It makes no sense. If the EU doesn't show any muscle now, nobody can take the institution seriously. They HAVE to act. They will come to an agreement, but it sure as hell won't be more or even as beneficial to the UK than it is now, considering the UK already got a very preferential treatment even tho it's not even the most powerful nation in the EU. If the US will support the UK in any significant way also remains to be seen, considering they wanted the UK to stay considering the UK isn't that important of a trading partner for the US.
So because they aren't as good with irrelevant trivialities like Facebook, they are less competent on issues of state? What exactly does an 18 year old actually know about what makes a country prosperous or safe? Nothing, first hand, obviously; the rest is what they've been told and that's very vulnerable to GIGO.
I am sure I did not say a better deal, I said a cheaper deal.
The main issues with the EU that the UK had were:
1. Immigration - solved by leaving
2. Legislation - any business with the EU would be subject to their legislation, business anywhere else can be on separate terms
3. Cost of membership - any payment will have to be cheaper, or the UK will not agree to a deal
The EU will accept 3, because it is not worth them not accepting it.
Well Boris Jonson is unelectable for many conservatives. Reelections are much more probable and a fresh start. Lets see who will get the votes when goods will be more expensive and unemployment will rise. And there is noone else to blame. Of course they can still blame muslims or something like that. But that would be close to Germany in the 1930s.
So much ageism in this thread. Here's hoping the moderators intervene and punish the bigots.
The UK is by far the closest tie the Americans have of any European nation, that's not going to change tomorrow, no matter how much Obama wishes it would. Culture beats strategy, it's Americans that will determine the relationship between the US and UK, not our government. Anybody seeking national office in the US on a platform of trying to bully the UK back into the EU doesn't have a winning issue.
The EU was a good idea, just badly run. The people in charge of the EU openly say they hate democracy and see it as nothing more than an obstacle.
Who knew putting 500m people under one roof would cause problems?
