Scariest thing that has ever happened to you before?

I was a kid, sitting at home on the computer playing City of Heroes, watching fairly oddparents when suddenly I hear a dark, low-pitched, malicious voice say "Hey!" coming from my closet. I look at the TV thinking it was the TV when Timmy Turner is talking to Cosmo and Wanda only and then I look back in the direction of my closet when the voice then laughs. I haul ass, after falling out of my chair, and run into my mothers room screaming. The voice boomed louder and louder, I don't even know if my mom could've heard it as she looked angry with me for scaring her to death while looking in the direction of my room.

When i was a kid, there was this, huge thunderstorm.

And it wasn't the normal kind of lightning or what not. It was louder than normal. The sound of the thunder echoed so loudly, i remember it vividly, because when i looked to the skies, i saw it covered. The entire thing.

Amongst the clouds, i could see purple Lightning angrily jolt itself across the sky. And then it came.

In one, extreme flash, the skies lit up, as all the jolts of lightning, gathered into one, and struck down into the ground.

It was in that moment, i knew ; I am nothing compared to the wrath of this planet.

In the army a fellow soldier almost shot me by accident. The bullets (note plural!) hit like 10cm from my feet.

Almost slid off a really steep mountain, managed to stop 2 meters from the cliff (after which was just straight down to sharp rocks some ~100 meters below), and before I can collect myself I see my friend sliding past me, lunge to grab his leg, feel it rip from my hands, and in what later seems like really slow motion think that he's going to die and there's nothing I can do. He stopped by himself right on the edge on the cliff.

Not the same kind of scary, but definitely the most scared I've been.

When I was a kid my brother thought its funny to dress like a burglar (face covered, with knife in one hand) and storm into my room (the door was behind me and I was distracted). Biggest scare of my life. Today I would instantly attack the person but as a kid I was stunned..

When I was a kid I had pins in my hips due to a medical problem caused by my cancer treatment. When I was eight or nine I was playing around with a friend or something and one of the pins became dislodged and shot out of my hip... The outward facing end of it was flat though so it didn't pierce my skin. But it felt like I was being stabbed in my hip and there was this huge tent shaped bulge several inches long coming off the side of my leg under my skin. Was really terrifying because I was young and every movement felt like I was being stabbed. I had to chill in a hospital bed for like two days with it while they consulted with my orthopedic surgeon about what to do.

While sky diving, first shoot fails to deploy. Auxiliary shoot then failed to deploy. I fell some 3000 feet thinking I was goner before chute finally pulled out.

Probably the time someone tried to suddenly lane change into my lane at 70 mph. The back end of their car almost hit the front end of mine, but I managed to swerve and dodge barely. I was mostly enraged when it happened. It was only scary after I stopped driving and thought about it.

A close runner up is waking up in a panic thinking that I forgot to do my Spanish homework and forgot to attend class for the last 2 weeks. It's been a very, very long time since I've taken a Spanish class and I still have these nightmares. Having to do all the work for a year because your partners were incompetent scars you, man.

Dude I had something like that happen to me recently. I woke up utterly convinced I had some huge assignment that I completely forgot about due that day and I was freaking out... I finished college in 2013.

No idea what caused it, never had it happen before or since. My guess is it was dream related.

My father told me he had nightmares about army back in the day after he was finished with the army. He had a nightmare where the army had somehow deleted all his service record or something like that and he had to go through the service again.

Falling asleep while driving in the Rocky mountains. I'm still pretty sure I died and everything since then has been a dream.
