you get bonus XP and you don't get a lost if you join as back-fill.

Happens to me only on the first game I queue somehow. I always queue solo. It is annoying but hardly game breaking. I think you even get quite substantial XP for filling in a spot.

Annoying sure, but it happens in any game like this where you can back fill, blame the quitters not Blizzard.
